Background

Wikipedia

Poseidon (previously known as Status-6 (Russian code name) and Kanyon (American code name)) is a nuclear-powered and nuclear-armed unmanned underwater vehicle under development by the Russian Federation that can deliver conventional and nuclear payloads. According to Russian state TV, it may be able to deliver a thermonuclear cobalt bomb of up to 100 megatonnes against enemy's naval ports and coastal cities. In 2018, the U.S. Nuclear Posture Review stated that Russia is developing a "new intercontinental, nuclear armed, nuclear-powered, undersea autonomous torpedo".

Poseidon appears to be a deterrent weapon of last resort. It appears to be a torpedo-shaped robotic mini-submarine which can travel at speeds of 185 km/h (100 kn). More recent information suggests a top speed of 100 km/h (54 kn), with a range of 10,000 km (5,400 nmi; 6,200 mi) and a depth maximum of 1,000 m (3,300 ft). This underwater drone is cloaked by stealth technology to elude acoustic tracking devices. Its size appears to be 1.6 metres in diameter, and 24 metres long. The warhead shown in the leaked figure is a cylinder 1.5 metres in diameter by 4 metres in length, giving a volume of 7 cubic meters. Comparing this to the volumes of other large thermonuclear bombs, the 1961 Soviet-era Tsar Bomba itself measured 8 metres long by 2.1 metres in diameter, indicates that the yield is at least several tens of megatons, generally consistent with early reports.

@AvroPilot any stupid people think is is good and Russia is evil. There the same because if Russia was weak, and even if not a pretty much enemy to the us and not “evil” US, like a ape would take over it.

@AvroPilot The view of who is "bad" usually comes from preference. Russia probably went through a similar "Red Scare" type situation during the Cold War as we did fearing them. Along with they think we're evil for breaking treaties and having a near world wide military dominance, thus justifying their buildup of new "super weapons." While the US sees this as a threat to their superiority and fears them. Views of good and bad depend on which side you mostly associate with. NATO countries usually carry the same "Russia is evil" type of view point.

@EternalDarkness We already employ Supercavitating torpedoes, which I believe travel at higher speeds. But, since this is nuclear powered, it does travel further. Paternia who is the most likely rival to us, employs torpedo APS on their ships like we do. Though, this torpedo travels at around (115?) mph. It could possibly allow us to strike vessels at long distance and evade these Active Protection systems.

@RocCrafter101 or you can arm it with a conventional warhead. It's still a ship killer.

@EternalDarkness Which is why, I would be putting these new weapons into a more “aggressive” or “offensive” use in RPs. Assuming nuclear weapons are allowed. If not, these can act as spotting or scouts. Even submarine hunters.

@AvroPilot more like the Americans are coming. Russia is playing defensive and knows the US wont try to bug them if they have increasing nuclear power

With a large high explosive warhead, this can blow up a portion of a carrier fleet. If its nuclear capability is estimated correctly, this is the most powerful weapon ever made. Still, since Russia is holding defensive position, trying to keep the geopolitical scene as it is against US aggressions, it will probably never get deployed. Regardless of strength in terms of conventional military, USA will never risk Russian nuclear retaliation.
