In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Japan’s Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) began seeking a replacement for its aging F-1 support fighter. The country wanted a modern aircraft that could perform air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, optimized for Japan’s maritime defense needs.

⚙️ Design and Development
The result was the F-2, often nicknamed “Viper Zero” (combining the F-16’s nickname “Viper” and the WWII Japanese fighter “Zero”).
While it looks similar to an F-16, the F-2 is not just a copy — around 60% of the airframe was redesigned.
Key differences include:
• Larger wing area (about 25% bigger than the F-16’s) for more fuel and better maneuverability.
• Advanced composite materials, reducing weight and radar cross-section.
• Longer and wider fuselage to carry more internal fuel.
• Japanese-developed radar — the J/APG-1, the world’s first operational AESA radar (Active Electronically Scanned Array) when introduced.
• Upgraded avionics and cockpit with a large multi-function display.
• Compatibility with Japanese weapons, including ASM-1 and ASM-2 anti-ship missiles.
The first prototype flew on October 7, 1995. After a long testing phase, full production began in 1996, and the first F-2 entered service in 2000.

The F-2 was designed primarily for:

It uses the General Electric F110-GE-129 engine (also used in some F-16 variants), giving it excellent performance.
It has a top speed of around Mach 2, with a combat radius of about 830 km, depending on the mission.

• Operated mainly by 3rd, 6th, and 8th Air Wings.

• Over 90 F-2s were built between 2000 and 2011.
In 2011, several F-2s were damaged by the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, but most were repaired and returned to service.

Believe it or not, but I don't think super highly of myself. It has nothing to do with being "famous", it's because as a person I don't owe them attention arbitrarily. Especially when they just tag me and say nothing. Am I really worth that little that I can be summoned at will without so much as a word why?
Had they said something that gave me, specifically, a reason to be here, maybe I wouldn't be so harsh - but they didn't.
