The La Santella C-A.1 was the first fighter to enter service with the Forze armate reali Ryclian (Royal Ryclian armed forces) in the First Global War. The C-A.1 and its successors achieved quick air superiority in the Southern front over Iosia due to the invention of the gun synchronizer which gave Ryclian fighters the advantage of using pull props and overall lighter aircraft for greater mobility.

Developed by Orenzio La Santella initially as a scout aircraft in late 1913, the initial bid was lost to the Type.N and the design was almost scrapped until the development of synchronizer gear in 1914. During this time, the C-A.1 was outfitted with Ailerons over wing warping; a very unorthodox method of control for mono winged aircraft at the time, granting the aircraft further rigidity and stability of the wings.
