Note for the challenge; the engine power is not at .4, but rather 1, however, the max throttle input is limited to .4, thus, meeting the limits. Fuel consumption was too unacceptable with the stock parameters, so I flipped them. Hope this is acceptable.
Design: P-38, jet edition. I mean, you see it, don't you? Along with that, the other design inspiration is the P-59, as they are slotted for the same role, as the earliest jet fighters. Given this, this aircraft sucks, feels slow, slightly sluggish, hard to control at low altitude and a beast at higher altitudes, along with a desire to burn fuel. Generally, a sucky aircraft, which, is pretty inline for WW2 jets.
Lore: In 1941, a program was started in the United States to field a jet fighter, based on engines from the United Kingdom. This bore both the P-59 Airacomet and the P-100 Dodo. While the P-59 had a similar armament to the P-38, P-39 and P-63, of a mixed armament of 1 37mm cannon and 3 .50 caliber machine guns.
However, the designers of Fentson opted for 8 .50 cals, all mounted in the nose. This gave a high weight of volume, much akin to the P-47, but lost ground capability and increased the amount of time the guns had to be on target. Much like the P-59, it would not be a resounding success in any regard beyond setting the stage for future jet fighters. 3 versions were built, the first to the USAAC, the second for the later USAAF and the last for the USN, all used for testing, but never reached frontline service.
Credit to the TheBababooey for the gun sight, what can I say, it's a good gun sight.
Notes: Yaws often. Also, I'm fairly confident it's good for VR flight, but I don't own a VR headset, so I can't confirm this. Other than the yaw issue, she flies fine. Also, I have had the main body hanging around for months, but never could figure out what to use it for. Until recently.
