"Plunderer"

A sky pirate, perhaps?

All green and covered with weapons,

the FB-6 is a trusty plane for sure. It's not exactly the fastest, as it is still subsonic (unless flying high and/or in a dive), but it's not unbearably slow. Plus, it makes up for its mediocre speed in virtually every area. Its armor is fairly good, its armament is fantastic, it gives you a nose-cam for better forward visibility, and it's a decent turner to add to that. Not to mention it definitely looks unique. As for said armament, you get four "Inferno" rocket pods, dual 250 pound bombs, eight .50 caliber machine guns, and four more machine guns via gunpods. Might be a bit late to say it, but this plane was not built to show mercy!

Trivia

-The Plunderer is an amalgamation of aircraft: the fuselage, canopy (to some degree) and under-body intake resemble the P-51, the wings could also be considered a P-51's but feel closer to a P-80 to me, the strange "supporting bar" connecting the vertical and horizontal stabilizers to the plane is modeled after the strange wedge on the tail of the P-47N, the eight .50 caliber gun armament is also inspired by the P-47, and the tip tanks were influenced by the F2H Banshee. Aaaand to add another plane to the list, both its name and paint job were modeled after that of the FB-7A Pilferer.
-The FB-6 was introduced in 1953, but its first flight was on April 22, 1954. How??? No idea, but legend has it that buyers were so eager to get the fighter-attacker in service before the end of the Korean War that it was officially acceptable for service before it was even ready. However, the engineers needed everything to be perfect, and by the time that happened, no more war.
-Surprisingly, only two FB-6s were ever lost to enemy fighters, any other combat losses were claimed by ground and surface AA weapons. However, it's commonly argued whether it had so few air-to-air losses due to being a good plane or air superiority. The FB-6s claimed 47 air-to-air victories in its entire service life, and 18 combat losses (with another debated, as it was damaged by enemy flak but survived until a rough landing at its base left it written off, pilot survived).
-This post was originally inducted into Unlisted on December 15, 2024.
