BMC MITÜP ''Altay''

Altay is a 3+ generation main battle tank developed in Turkey. It is named after Fahrettin Altay, who commanded the 5th Cavalry Corps in the Turkish War of Independence.

National Tank Production (MITUP) As the main value of the project by the Presidency of Defense Industry in the Defense Industry Executive Committee held on March 30, 2007, Otokar Otomotiv ve Savunma Sanayi A.S. Exploded. On November 9, 2018, the foundations of development, development, development, testing and mass production for the T1 and T2 trainings of the Altay main battle tank were laid with the serial project marked BMC by the Presidency of Defense Industries. Altay reports of Unmanned T3 tanks are planned within the scope of the project.

The technical support provider of the Altay project is South Korea's Hyundai Rotem. A financial resource of 500 million dollars was allocated for the completion of the design, development, prototype manufacturing, testing and certification phases of the tank called "Altay".[10] The prototype tests and qualification studies of the vehicle, which is being designed as the third generation main battle tank, were completed in 2012 and it is anticipated that the serial production will be commissioned by the end of 2019.[11] During the design phase, it is aimed to benefit from the experience gained from the South Korean production of the K2 Black Panther main battle tank project.[12] With a new tender to be opened at the end of the project, the institution or organization that won the mass production will be determined. The 250 tanks planned to be produced at the first stage will be able to be increased in line with the needs of the TAF.[13]

The main weapon of the main battle tank Altay is chrome-plated, smooth and non-slotted, with a firing range of 3 km and capable of firing all kinds of ammunition conforming to STANAG 4385, which will be produced by the Machinery and Chemical Industry Corporation within the scope of the technology transfer agreement with the South Korean company Hyundai Rotem channel. It has been determined as a 120mm 55 caliber smoothbore gun with a barrel and to be produced from special steel. The total barrel length of the gun is 6.6 m and its weight is 1324 kilograms. With the start of the production process of the tank, the mass production phase will begin.[14][15] Tank fire control system, tank command control combat information system and electric gun turret propulsion system will be produced by Aselsan.[16] The tank is also planned to have 7.62 mm and 12.7 mm machine guns and 40 mm grenade launchers as remotely controlled weapon systems.[7]

Desing

The vehicle's Volkan-III tank fire control system and tank command control communication information system will be designed and produced by Aselsan, the 120 mm 55 caliber main gun system will be produced by MKE through technology transfer via Hyundai Rotem, and the modular armor package will be produced by Roketsan.[ 17] Otokar was awarded an incentive of 500 million USD for the design and development of 4 prototypes.

In September 2010, the Conceptual Design Phase, the first phase of the Altay project, was approved by the Undersecretariat of Defense Industry and completed. Thus, the 2nd phase of the project, the Detailed Design Phase, which is planned to last 30.5 months, was initiated. At this stage of the project, integration and interface design studies of the selected subsystems on the tank will be carried out within the scope of detailed design activities.[18]
On October 15, 2010, a contract was signed between Otokar and MTU and Renk companies on the power package of the Altay tank.[18]

Based on the news published on July 7, 2012, "A vehicle that will test the mobility, called MTR, will be revealed in the Altay project at the end of the summer. In the first quarter of 2013, the FTR, that is, the vehicle where the shooting tests will be carried out, will come off the production line. The tests will be carried out together with the TAF. At the end of 2016 or the beginning of 2017. Altay will be ready for mass production.
It was introduced on 15 November 2012 at a ceremony held at Otokar's factory in Sakarya, attended by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. It is said that the Altay Tank, of which two main prototypes were produced, "will be ready for mass production by 2015".[19][20]
2013 Shooting tests were carried out in Ankara Sereflikochisar. Winter tests in Sarikamis have been completed.

On 12 August 2014, Tümosan Motor and Traktör Sanayi A.S. Won the Altay Tank Power Group Development Tender. The original engine will be developed by Tümosan.
Tractor and diesel engine manufacturer Tümosan Motor ve Traktör Sanayi A.S. for Altay Tank Power Group Development Project. (TÜMOSAN) and the Undersecretariat of Defense Industry signed a contract on 17 March 2015. Within the scope of the project, which is planned to last for a total of 54 months, it is planned to use the Power group primarily in the Altay tank, which will be developed by making maximum use of existing domestic opportunities and capabilities and receiving technical support from abroad in necessary areas, if needed. It is aimed to design, develop, prototype production, test and qualification of the power group in a way that all rights of the power group will belong to the Undersecretariat of Defense Industry. According to the contract; For the first year, approximately 30 tank engines and gearboxes are expected to be produced. This number will be increased for the following years.
The Altay Tank Power Group to be produced;

V-12 structure and ~26 liters volume,
A total volume of 5.5 cubic meters with the transmission,
Feeding with 2 high pressure turbochargers,
Using the Common-Rail injection system,
Having 5 forward and 3 reverse gear shifts,
It is planned that the tank will allow 360° point rotation in both directions on its own axis.

Notes

As with most Turkish guns, it is difficult to find detailed blueprints for this tank. The project is very complicated right now.

This project has been going on since 2000 (Tank 2000 Project) and still no results

The most troublesome part of the tank right now is the engine.

but i tried to do my best
it was especially difficult to do because there is no blueprint, its turret is very complex and there are many different turret designs (some look like Leopard and some look like Leclerc)
