History

The HMS Indestructible is a dreadnought battleship laid down in 1908, launched in 1910, and commissioned in 1911 as the leadship of her class of three ships, the HMS Indestructible, the HMS Industrial, and the HMS Crown. Her design inspired the Royal Navy to later design the Orion class battleships, while fixing many of the Indestructible's problems and figuring out the quirks of the new ship.

As a dreadnought type battleship, she would see her first service responding to the raid on Scarborough, even though she would arrive a few days too late to reinforce the British fleet, so she and her crew stuck around to render aid to the wounded.

Her first real battle would happen in 1916 in the Battle of Jutland. Where she would score a few hits on German dreadnoughts before a lucky hit by a German battlecruiser blew her Q turret and disabling the turret for the remainder of the battle, and for the remainder of WW1 as steel was instead reserved for repairs for super dreadnoughts.

Her Q turret would instead be removed and scrapped and in its place would be 2 catapult, one on each side to launch small seaplanes. This would save her from the scrapyards unlike her sisters, HMS Industrial and HMS Crown being sold for scrap in 1929 and 1934 respectively just to save the British from the economic collapse.

Instead, the HMS Indestructible would start her career in WW2 as a convoy escort, carrying many depth charges that would be flown by her seaplane and of course, in a rush, a passive sonar is also fitted in. In May 1941, a call was made for every available ships to chase down and sink the battleship the KMS Bismarck. Her crews were enraged and the HMS Indestructible would detach from her England bound convoy, on a fateful journey.

Few days after her detachment with no escort, she would be an easy picking for U Boat, and to be specific, the U Boat U-72, U-331, and U-83. Under the darkness, 4 torpedos slammed home into her port side. Resulting in the sinking of the battleship within 2 hours and thanks to her exceptional crew, a distress call could be sent. However only 40% of her crew would escape from the sinking ship, and rescued by British ships in the dawn.

Special Thanks

@BMilan for providing me with codes for turrets and i was able to adapt it for secondary guns too, and also giving me just the challenge to test my skills

Rant

hello, its me again, its uhhhh just a few hours before deadline i think i can make it. Anyways i wanna say thank you to everyone who downloaded this ship. Its been a while since i made another ship. Its because i have college and uhhh i had been playing other games besides SP. There's also committee jobs i had to do so basically just super busy days its been.

Also i had ignored this challenge up until about a week ago, so i only had like 7 days to finish this haha what am i doing ??

Anyways, this is my entry into BMilan's Dreadnought challenge, and uhhh i hope i get considered too hehe

Anyways, its uhhh 00:30 in the morning, im getting sleepy its been a very hectic day and definitely the most soccer in the world. I used to waste time playing games now its playing games when there's time ahaha, im getting old. Also im going home to Jakarta for the semester holidays in July 10th to visit family.

    Official evaluation

    - First Impression (3/5):

The ship looks like a pretty solid attempt at a dreadnought. It has its flaws but its not bad by any means and it's clear that the builder put quite a lot of effort into it. The first sailing went rather smoothly with the ship handling the ocean mod quite well.

    - Design/Accuracy (7/15):

Despite claiming to be a british ship, the design seems to be somewhat influenced by the refitted New York class dreadnoughts with some resemblance to the Orion class dreadnoughts.
According to the description, the build represents the ship in her original configuration, meaning the addition of the torpedo netting is authentic.
I feel like the lack of tall masts is what makes the ship appear somewhat too modern, but other than that, it seems to mostly follow the dreadnought design principles.
What I think could also have been improved is the shape of the hull, it should have been a bit more oval shape.

    - Details (8/15):

The decks of the ship are a bit barren with not even anchors added, however, things like the railings, and the stairs are a nice touch. I also like the swung out lifeboats which were placed on the winches to actuall swing around a little.
The torpedo netting is also a neat little detail on thw side of the ship.

    - Features (9/20):

The ship only has the main and secondary guns usable, all of which use centrailzed aiming which is a neat addition as many entries didnt seem to centraileze the secondaries with the main turrets.
However, other than this, the ship doesnt have any other features.

    - Build Quality (5/10):

The ship doesnt seem to use any creative part saving methods (the only thin I could mention is the smokestack using a fuselage inlet). Despite this, the builder still brought the most out of the traditional building methods and there also some neat new methods used, such as slicing used for the neat bow flare.
The exposed rotators below the top secondaries is not too nice either. Im guessing the builder might have left them exposed on ourpose, for some additional detail, but I think it would have looked better without.
There was also a lifeboat that was accidentally painted partially black, I believe it must have been a mistake due to the rushed nature of the building.

    - Performance (9/20):

The ship performs very well on the ocean mod, apart from some bounciness initially, after which it sails insanely smoothly even on large waves. One thing I think should be improved is the fact that the ship sits so low in the water: the black boot stripe is way below the waterline even though it should be at the waterline (or slightly above it)
The guns turn a tiny bit slow for my taste, should they have beem a bit faster, it could have been a good middle ground between realistic and arcadey fun.
The ship uses jet engines for steering and movement alike, with propellers and a rudder placed only as decoration. It's a pretty standard, traditional way of solving ship movement, I recommend trying out other solutions such as actual rudder steering or custom built propellers next time.
Max speed is a tiny bit slow (at least the max I could reach, was 18 knots, whereas even the original HMS Dreadnought could reach 21).

    - Description and Information (9/15):

The description is fair. It includes a quite detailed history section, controls and a neat gallery of screenshots, presenting the ship as historical potos with even things like an photo of the disabled turret to make it look like it was photohraphed after the battle.
There is also a lengthy builder's note at the end which I feel like was dragged out a bit long but was fine.

    Additional Points (-0, +1):

+1 for the very smooth sailing on the ocean mod

@Graingy basically never name or even say your ship is unsinkable, just say its extremely safe. SS United States can attest to that.
