Republic P-47D Thunderbolt

106k Hedero  5.5 years ago

The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was a World War II-era fighter aircraft produced by the United States from 1941 through 1945. Its primary armament was eight .50-caliber machine guns, and in the fighter-bomber ground-attack role it could carry five-inch rockets or a bomb load of 2,500 pounds.

Here it is, the P-47D!

This isn't a specific P-47, but if it would be, it would probably be the N-15 version. Anyways, credits to Dragonlady for giving me the idea to build this aircraft. He also helped me make this aircraft 1:1 scale in size. Follow him and upvote his builds for great, quality work! I absolutely love the P-47, I think it is just a beast, or, a jug... One interesting thing about the p-47 though, or at least imo, is the large turbocharger located underneath the engine. That's what gives it its famous "jug" look. Without it, it would be a rather normal radial engined aircraft. One thing I would love to see however, is a P-47 without the turbocharger, I think it would be quite interesting. But yeah, I'm quite happy with this, I made it fly as realistically as I could. Still though, it's a ton of fun to fly around! It also comes armed with 8 MGs. So you should enjoy blasting enemies out of the sky, or on the ground.

Well for me it isn't too bad. It's the curving the insignia around the body that's horrible.@KnightOfRen

Well the dihedral doesn't matter. I'm sure I could've done something. I just use chichiwerx's usaf insignia pack for all of my airplanes.@KnightOfRen

Something just came to me: I think the turboless P-47 would look like a hawker tempest (the version without the intake)

Very nice! Personally I think this is one of your best works. Sorry to eves drop, but I have some insignias in my subassemblies that could solve your flush problem. Lmk if you're interested

Wow, thank you soo much for the support and feedback dude! I really appreciate it. I know, I know, missing the national insignias really does hurt but I don't know the best method to making them stick flush with the body. I see people paneling the insignia with the body but it looks insanely difficicult to do. I personally don't think I could do that. But yes, even I think it's a crying shame to miss it, however, if you know of a more efficient method to making one, please let me know. But anyways, I'm so very glad you like the airplane!@ChiChiWerx

Ok, you made an absolutely unforgivable mistake, IMHO...you left off the stars and bars! I’m sure you have a good reason for doing so, but if you know anything about me, you’ll know I’d never leave off the very best national insignia! However, the sheer charisma of the Thunderbolt compensates for that decision, so I forgive you. It doesn’t fly quite fast enough, the real thing was a 400 mph airplane, this one isn’t quite so fast, especially down low, but you actually have enough trim authority!!! That alone is worth 5 upvotes! Shape is great, the subject is fantastic and fantastically overlooked in this community and the shape of the cowling is spot on! Two thumbs up from me!
