Carlton Arms RS638/Mk 2 Service Pistol

147k Pilotmario  8.1 years ago

A .38 caliber, six-shot, double-action revolver adopted by the Pilotmario Army. It was essentially a Carlton Arms RS638 revolver available to civilians, except with approval stamps from Army Ordnance. A notable feature it had was its swing-out cylinder, which swung out to the left side. This allowed the use of speedloaders and moon clips. It was adopted because of shortages of the Mk 1 Service Pistol. These revolvers were issued to police units, Pilotmario Navy officers, and vehicle crews in order to free up Mk 1 Pistols. Many were converted to fire the 9mm cartridges, although most retained their original chamberings. While the Mk 1 would be produced in sufficient quantities for rearline troops to use, police officers retained their revolvers, since it was felt these were more suitable for police use. Pilotmario Gendarmarie revolvers were mostly carried, sometimes brandished, and rarely fired, except in mandatory weekly training. Pilotmario Gendarmarie Rapid Response Units also use the Mk 2 when combined with ballistic shields during an entry, since the slide of a semiautomatic pistol may interface with the shield in less than desireable ways, where the revolver does not have such reciprocating components. Of note, the RS638 is actually a designation: R stands for revolver, S stands for swing-out cylinder, 6 stands for the ammunition capacity, and 38 stands for the caliber.
