Anthony Macri sprint car

Dirt NASCAR

Background

Sprint car racing is basically a bunch of rednecks strapped to a rocketship on dirt. Its very popular in rural america, and in my small Pennsylvania town is one of the biggest sports. In a 30 minute radius theres at least 3 dirt tracks, the two active ones seem to be very popular on the world of outlaws schedule. There are different classes for both winged and unwinged chassis' as well as different engines. All engines are naturally aspirated V8's that are run on alcohol. The 410 class such as this car are 900hp from an aluminum block based off the chevy small block, but other manufacturers also make V8's for this class. The chassis all together weights in it 1400lbs making it nearly 1:1 power to Wright. These cars are designed to go left and so aero is tuned for the most stability as well as irl cars having different size tires in the rear to have more grip.

Anthony Macri

Anthony Macri is a local legend and races in the world of outlaws series. Here's a bit of this background taken from his website:
Anthony began racing 600cc Micro Sprints at the age of 12. Anthony jumped from 600’s directly into 410 winged sprint car action, where he is entering his 7th season, in 2023.

Anthony has accumulated several wins across both divisions. In 410 competition he has 9 wins in 2020 and 11 wins in 2021 which earned him his first Hoseheads Central PA Points Championship.

In 2022 Anthony was the winningest driver in sprint car racing with 23 wins and earned his second Central PA Points Championship.

Controls

  • Throttle for throttle
  • Brake for brake
  • Roll for steering
  • No special ag groups

Builders note: This build has come together rather quickly, just about a week and a half and honestly, became sort of a passion project and am sooo happy on how its came out. To some Europeans it may not be something you recognize, but to a small town american its such an impressive car and those that race them are legends and take their life in their own hands every lap. Over the post 5 years there have been at least 2 deaths because of accidents and is always a tragedy, but in my opinion, these cars are so fun to watch and the racing is so interesting. I highly recommend to anyone to watch it if they can, you wont be disappointed. As far as sp goes, there really isn't a good place to drive this thing, if we had a dirt oval it'd be better but unfortunately we dont. None the less its a very good model and would work perfectly if we did have a proper dirt track. If you would like to make your own livery I will have here a blank canvas for your to create a livery. Please share with me any livery you may make, I would love to see them! Enjoy!

@Lee77100 hey quick question, would you think a fair gearing for the transmission would be 1st=50mph; 2nd=130mph ish?
Also here is the finished shifter mechanism. Just have to code it so it works right

@Lee77100 no worries brother, I appreciate the insight! So in a way the fluid lever is acting sort of like a clutch in a way, just no pedal and in an automatic transmission ssense. Yep, helps a bunch, im going to see if I can maybe make a system to make that work in sp, maybe a ag selection and using vtol or trim to set the gear. Also if it wouldn't be to much, I still have a few things I need to finish but when I do you be down to look at the model to make sure I got everything? I still need to scale it down, and i did test it and pretty much all the tuning I've done so far is completely junk because scaled down it grips to much and the suspension tuning I did doesn't work so I may be maybe another few weeks.

@PapaKernels sorry took so long to get back to you, I haven't been on much. I ran an IMCA style dirt modified in mid 1990, so things have changed since then quite a bit lol, that being said when I ran we had a modified powerglide automatic transmission, so the 2 levers where the shifter would be on ours, one would be forward and reverse and the other would engage the fluid pressure to flow through the transmission, so having the pressure shut off you can select forward or reverse then slowly give it throttle and start giving it pressure, start moving giving it more throttle and more pressure until it was to full pressure, then it's in gear all the way and pretty much a direct drive, no clutch pedal and a lot less rotating weight on the drivetrain. Yes there should be a brake bias knob front to
rear, not a whole lot on the dash just tachometer, oil pressure, oil temp and water temp. I hope this helps and isn't to late lol, I'll be on here more often so any other questions feel free.🙂

@Lee77100 hey, I finally got around to the dirt modified and was just wondering which type of modified you use to run? I'm currently on a northeast modified "which you can see here".
Really the only thing i can't find much info on is the interior and how its set up. A reference image i found looked like there's a brake bias dodad, looked like there might be two different pedals on the passenger side, guessing gas and clutch with brake on other side, and two levers on the passenger side, that i know 1 is a gear selector, just don't know what the second one would be. (Sorry if that doesn't make sense). I put so much more work into it with every bar being 2 way adjustable in the rear plus a moveable weight block for better tunablity. Last I checked it was 2050 parts.

@Lee77100 I do know about the staggering of the tires and was in my blueprints but seeing as tho there really is no dirt track to use it on so i left it out for easier playablity. Thanks!

Amazing job!! But need some stagger in those back tires, outside tire should be about 2/10 or so bigger than the inside, I used to run dirt modifieds and watched hundreds of sprint races. Other than that you nailed brother nice work love it!!!
