Before I talk about this truck,I'd like to introduce Scania's new factory in China recently.

Scania's factory in Jiangsu, China, opened on Oct 15, 2025. It's Scania's 3rd global industrial hub, largest investment yet (€2 billion). Covers 800,000 sqm.

The following is an introduction to this car.

Here's a detailed introduction to the Scania NEXT ERA truck in English:

1. Design Philosophy: Blending Chinese Heritage with Global Innovation

  • "Ding" Inspired Front Grille: The NEXT ERA features a bold, polygonal front grille shaped like a Chinese "Ding" (鼎), symbolizing stability and cultural integration. This design replaces Scania's traditional layered grille, creating a futuristic yet culturally resonant aesthetic.
  • Localized Details: The truck is the first Scania model to display the brand name in Chinese characters ("斯堪尼亚") on the front, emphasizing its commitment to the Chinese market. The license plate is centrally positioned for better visual balance, a detail praised by users.
  • Aerodynamic Optimization: The front mask incorporates diamond-shaped vents for cooling efficiency, while a partially enclosed design reduces wind resistance. The vertical LED daytime running lights and vertically mounted roof lights enhance visibility and airflow, contributing to a drag coefficient as low as 0.37 Cd when paired with optimized trailers.

2. Powertrain: Robust Performance for Diverse Road Conditions

  • TD13 Engine: Built on the TRATON Group’s Common Base Engine (CBE) architecture, the TD13 straight-six diesel engine is tailored for China’s complex logistics demands. It offers two power outputs:

    • 460 hp (2,350 N·m torque)

    • 500 hp (2,550 N·m torque)

The engine delivers strong low-end torque for smooth acceleration and fuel efficiency, even under heavy loads.

  • PG14 14-Speed Automatic Transmission: This gearbox includes 12 forward gears, one crawler gear, and one overdrive gear, covering a wide speed ratio range (0.83–20.8). Paired with a 2.6-speed rear axle, it ensures seamless power delivery for highway cruising and heavy-duty hauling.

3. Safety & Durability: Meeting Global Standards

  • High-Strength Cab Structure: The cab uses a lightweight yet robust skeleton design, complying with the stringent European ECE-R29 collision safety regulations. It provides exceptional protection in rollovers and frontal impacts.
  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS): The NEXT ERA supports L2+ autonomous driving, featuring adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking. These systems reduce driver fatigue during long-haul trips.

4. Interior & Comfort: A Mobile Workspace for Modern Drivers

  • Spacious Cab: The interior is 15% larger than its predecessor, with a flat floor design that enhances mobility. The lowered dashboard and thinner A-pillars minimize blind spots, improving safety.
  • Ergonomic Features:

    • 850 mm-wide sleeper berth for rest.

    • Multiple storage compartments and a foldable table for meals.

    • 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 15.6-inch central touchscreen for intuitive control of navigation, media, and vehicle diagnostics.

    • Voice commands, keyless start, and electronic parking brake for convenience.

5. Product Lineup & Pricing: Targeting High-End Logistics

  • Three Variants:

    • 4×2 Pro: ¥539,000

    • 6×2 Pro: ¥566,000

    • 6×4 Pro: ¥588,000

  • Market Positioning: Priced competitively against domestic high-end trucks, the NEXT ERA aims to dominate sectors like express delivery, cold chain logistics, and general freight. Its "imported technology at local pricing" strategy challenges traditional premium brands.

6. After-Sales Support: A Dedicated Network

  • Independent Sales & Service: Scania has established a specialized NEXT ERA network with 80 dealerships and 150 service vehicles across China. This ensures rapid response times and localized parts availability, reducing downtime for operators.

Summary: A Game-Changer for China’s Trucking Industry

The Scania NEXT ERA redefines premium heavy-duty trucks in China by merging cultural design elements, hardcore engineering, and smart connectivity. With its competitive pricing and comprehensive service ecosystem, it is poised to disrupt the ¥500,000–¥600,000 truck segment, offering a compelling alternative to both domestic and international rivals. Deliveries begin in March 2026, marking a new era for long-haul logistics in China.
