Lightning Aircraft Industries LT-6A Panther

HISTORY:

The newly formed Wright Isles Airforce was in need of new aircraft. While most went down the route of fighters, bombers or the like, Lightning Aircraft Industries had a different idea. They would make a jet-powered night fighter. So after taking some inspiration from the E3D SkyKnight and after 2 years, the LT-6A 'Panther' was born.

The aircraft had been designed with all the quality's of a night fighter, but with a few extras. The primary armament consisted of 6 quick-firing, 50 calibre machine guns like on the F-86 Sabre, whilst the avionics included an LAI BT-900J radar in the nose of the aircraft. But extra armament was made up of 2 40 mm cannons. This was so the LT-6A could very quickly take out any aircraft without revealing itself for long. The turbo-jet engine was an LAI XL-60K turbo-jet engine. This allowed the night fighter to reach about 675 mph above 20,000 ft.

But above 25,000 ft, The LT-6A could actually reach supersonic speeds, exceeding 800 mph. The livery for these night fighters was interesting as they all had their own registration number, but was painted relatively small on the fuselage, the larger WI representing Wright Isles. This particular one was used by Flt Lieutenant Laureen Delgus. she had a skull and crossbones near the nose of the aircraft. But anyways, the LT-6A Panther was produced in 1958 and was retired in 1972 with over 400 built. Currently, there are 15 preserved examples over the world, 8 of which are airworthy.

Well, it wouldn't be a night fighter without the cover of the night, now would it?

    (I get your point though)

@ND40X that already sounds awesome! Tag me in it when you post. I also hope you can find an XML modded rotator or make one yourself so that it will constantly turn the radar dish (if it is one which uses the radar dish that is)

This is very nice! The cockpit looks really good and the general shape is nice too. The one thing I would change is make the nose cone a little more rounded.
