Alright so basically
Back in the mid to late 1500's, the Ottoman empire took over the island of Cyprus, from the Venicians (yes, the guys in Italy went all the way to Cyprus)
And they held it for 308 years, in which a bunch of Turks wpuld move there (quite a lot of them were central asians that just got moved there because they wouldn't stop moving west apparently, and you can kinda see that when you look at Turkish Cypriots compared to Anatolia Turks, like we have slimmer eyes :0)
But in around 1878, the Ottomans gave Cyprus to the British Empire in exchange for defence against Russia
Fast forward to 1960
Cyprus got independence after the greeks revolted I think (I remember from my dad's 1.5 hour long explanation is that the Turkish Cypriots were lowk chill with the Brits), and had little to no say in the creation
And as you'd expect, putting Turks and Greeks on the same rock with a lot of the politics done by Turkey, Greece and the UK/British Empire, sh8 went south, Fast
Fast forward to 1974, skipping all the massacres, resistances and other stuff
Turkey invades to do some stuff
Greek Cypriots would tell you it's an evil bad invasion
Turkish Cypriots would tell you it's a good heroic operation

Fast forward again to 83 because I forgot what happens
The TRNC (KKTC in Turkish) is formed :D (where I live)
