Pesawat latih lanjut yang berkemampuan COIN (Counter Insurgency) atau pesawat anti perang gerilya. Dari desainnya, pesawat ini sangat pas untuk mendukung misi-misi pengintaian, close air support, dan penumpasan pemberontak.

Indonesia memiliki 16 pesawat EMB-314 Super Tucano yang dibeli Pemerintah Indonesia dari Brasil pada 2012 lalu yang di tempatkan di Skadron 21 Abd Malang. Armada baru ini bertugas menggantikan pesawat OV-10F Bronco yang kini telah di grounded karena usianya yang tua.

EMB-314 Super Tucano terdiri dari dua versi, tipe A-29ALX (kursi tunggal) dan AT-29B (kursi ganda). Khusus versi kursi ganda juga dapat digunakan sebagai elemen pesawat latih lanjut, dan versi inilah yang dimiliki oleh TNI AU.

Mengutip Indomiliter.com, EMB-314 Super Tucano merupakan hasil pengembangan pesawat latih EMB-312 Tucano yang dirilis pertama kali oleh Embraer pada tahun 1983. EMB-314 Super Tucano sendiri baru diluncurkan pada tahun 1992.

Mengemban tugas yang multi role, dengan penekanan pada serangan ke permukaan, menuntut pesawat bermesin Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-68C Turbo Propeller ini punya kemampuan manuver yang lincah. Dari parameter gravitasi, EMB-314 Super Tucano sanggup menahan gaya gravitasi maksimum hingga +7g dan -3.5g.

Sebagai perbandingan, jet tempur F-16 dan Sukhoi Su-27/Su-30 milik TNI-AU sanggup bermanuver hingga 9g. Semakin besar gaya g (gravitasi) menandakan tingkat manufer pesawat yang bersangkutan cukup tinggi, dan sangat ideal untuk bertarung secara dog fight. Level 7g di EMB-314 Super Tucano sebanding dengan F-5E Tiger, terbilang cukup lincah dan memberikan tingkat survivability cukup tinggi.

Menyadari kodratnya untuk membabat sasaran di darat dalam jarak dekat, EMB-314 Super Tucano tentunya memerlukan perlindungan ekstra. Pesawat ini dibekali sistem perlindungan proteksi untuk kabin awaknya. Kabin pilot dilindungi bahan baja kevlar pada sekeliling kokpit. Untuk keselamatan, pilot dilengkapi kursi lontar Martin Baker dengan pola zero-zero.

Sistem buka tutup kanopi dapat diaktifkan secara elektrik. Soal kekuatan kaca kokpit, mampu menahan benturan burung pada kecepatan 300 knot.   Elemen perlindungan ‘lebih’ pada ruang kokpit memang wajar untuk pesawat dengan misi COIN. Pasalnya, pesawat dengan ketinggian terbang rendah dan kecepatan terbatas, kerap bodi pesawat harus siap dalam menerima timah panas yang ditembakkan lawan di darat.

Persenjataan

Sebagai pesawat COIN, sistem senjata internal mutlak hadir di EMB-314 Super Tucano. Elemen organiknya adalah dua buah SMB (senapan mesin berat) kaliber 12,7mm jenis FN Herstal M3P yang ditempatkan di setiap sayapnya.

Sedangkan dari sisi eksternal, EMB-314 Super Tucano mempunyai lima cantelan yang diposisikan pada sisi sayap kiri dan kanan (masing-masing dua cantelan) dengan maksimum 250Kg. Sedangkan cantenal utama terletak di bawah badan pesawat dengan kapasitas angkuta maksimum 350Kg. Alhasil total maksimum senjata yang bisa dibawa mencapai 1.550Kg.

Koleksi senjata yang bisa dibawa seperti bon jenis MK-81/MK-82, bom cluster, rocket pod FFAR, dan rudal berpemandu laser, sekelas Maverick. Untuk menghadapi duel di udara, EMB-314 Super Tucano juga dapat membawarudal anti pesawat jenis AIM-9L Sidewinder atau MAA-A1 Piranha.

Pesawat ini juga dilengkali sistem pertahanan diri yang terdiri dari RWR (Radar Warning Receiver), MAWS (Missile Approach Warning System), dan chaff/ flare dispenser.

Serupa dengan jet tempur modern, EMB-314 Super Tucano juga dibekali sistem FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared), mengadopsi tipe StarSAFIRE III yang ditempatkan di bawah bodi pesawat.  Dengan FLIR memungkinkan awak membidik sasaran, navigasi, dan identifikasi. Sistem ini juga memungkinan pengawasan dan penyerangan baik saat siang dan malam hari, serta sanggup menghadapi segala kondisi cuaca.

Indonesia has 16 EMB-314 Super Tucano aircraft which were purchased by the Indonesian government from Brazil in 2012 and placed in Squadron 21 Abd Malang. This new fleet is tasked with replacing the OV-10F Bronco aircraft which have now been grounded due to their old age.

The EMB-314 Super Tucano is available in two versions, type A-29ALX (single seat) and AT-29B (double seat). Especially the double seat version can also be used as an element of advanced training aircraft, and this version is owned by the Indonesian Air Force.

Carrying out multi-role tasks, with an emphasis on surface attacks, requires this Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-68C Turbo Propeller engine to have agile maneuverability. From the gravity parameters, the EMB-314 Super Tucano is able to withstand a maximum gravitational force of up to +7g and -3.5g.

In comparison, the Indonesian Air Force's F-16 and Sukhoi Su-27/Su-30 fighter jets are capable of maneuvering up to 9g. The greater the force g (gravity) indicates the level of maneuver of the aircraft in question is quite high, and is ideal for fighting in a dog fight. The 7g level on the EMB-314 Super Tucano is comparable to the F-5E Tiger, is quite agile and provides a fairly high level of survivability.

Recognizing its nature to clear ground targets at close range, the EMB-314 Super Tucano certainly needs extra protection. This aircraft is equipped with a protective protection system for the crew cabin. The pilot cabin is protected by Kevlar steel around the cockpit. For safety, the pilot is equipped with a Martin Baker ejection seat with a zero-zero pattern.

The canopy opening system can be activated electrically. Regarding the strength of the cockpit glass, it is able to withstand the impact of birds at a speed of 300 knots. The ‘more’ element of protection in the cockpit space is natural for an aircraft with a COIN mission. The reason is, planes with low flying altitudes and limited speed, often the aircraft body must be ready to receive hot lead fired by opponents on the ground.

Armament

As a COIN aircraft, internal weapons systems are an absolute must on the EMB-314 Super Tucano. The organic elements are two SMBs (heavy machine guns) caliber 12.7mm FN Herstal M3P type which are placed on each wing.

While from the external side, the EMB-314 Super Tucano has five hardpoints positioned on the left and right wing sides (two hardpoints each) with a maximum of 250Kg. While the main cantenal is located under the fuselage with a maximum carrying capacity of 350 kg. As a result, the maximum total weapons that can be carried reach 1,550Kg.

A collection of weapons that can be carried, such as MK-81/MK-82 bills, cluster bombs, FFAR rocket pods, and laser-guided missiles, class Maverick. To face duels in the air, the EMB-314 Super Tucano can also carry AIM-9L Sidewinder or MAA-A1 Piranha anti-aircraft missile.
