Lightning mk1a XM178 "Firebird"

228k RamboJutter  6.6 years ago

From 1963 the official aerobatic team of the Royal Air Force became the Firebirds which fly nine English Electric Lightning F.Mk 1A aircraft. The team was from No 56th Squadron at Wattisham, Suffolk as all planes were painted in the squadron's paint scheme in overall silver and red tail. The team's name came from the No 56th Squadron patch which includes a firebird. The most iconic all british supersonic jet fighter (go see one fast taxy at Bruntingthorpe, its awesome). Enjoy, im going to lie down.

@F104Deathtrap none at all, was entertaining but we needed to draw a line under it before it fit out of hand :)

@asg I am not trying to be mean, but Your Cougar is not as polished as this Lightning.
To give you a quick critique; the shape is slightly off, the USN insignia are very large and blocky (try finding some slimmer ones) and the NAVY lettering doesnt follow the lines of the fuselage. It stands out like some sort of billboard. The cockpit is nice, but you downloaded that. Plus I dont think someone elses build is really the place to be airing your frustrations at not getting the upvotes you think you deserve.

And mine also has a much more detailed cockpit.

My f-9 has similar amounts of detail and better armament but still gets barely any upvotes and downloads compared to this >:(

@Tang0five ty, by far the most detailed model I have done yet, still forgot the brake parachute and to sort the flaps... thanks for all the comments BTW, much appreciated.

The real one had a top speed in excess of 1200mph (the story goes that they never hit the top speed as it always ran out of fuel first). But simple planes either has something that accelerates realistically but has a very low top speed or accelerates silly fast but has a more realistic top speed. I like speed. Might do an f6 variant at some point.
