Intake-built Radial Engine test - P-47N

5,080 GrahamSimmons  7.7 years ago

Hi folks! This is just a little test to see how possible it is to use the new cowlings for building model radial engines with more variation than what we have ingame. This aircraft is a rough 70% scale replica of a P-47N-15 including dorsal fin. The main point of it was the scratchbuilt radial engine in the nose. I hope this is helpful to some of you who may want to do the same thing!

I think with the knowledge I gained from this build test the next step is to make an accurate P-47 replica at full dimension/weight/power scale.

If it's ok @GrahamSimmons, I'd like to mirror the P-47 and turn it into something like a F-82 Twin Mustang-like plane and re-upload it.

I love the plane. And the engine. May I use the engine on another build?

I know it's just an engine test, but what lies aft is sharp. Please keep going if you're feeling it.

@Waffellord2025 Hi mate - a radial engine is when the cylinders are arranged in a radial pattern around a central crankshaft, e.g. Tempest II with a Bristol Centaurus engine. Inline or V engines are mounted down the length of the crank, e.g. Tempest V :-)

Thanks everyone for the comments and upvotes!

Awesome looks! Plus the engine with only 110 parts!? Awesome! And BTW radial is if the engine is on the outside. Its inline on this plane. Just mentioning that

It's come to my attention that there is one "errant" shape in the cylinders of the engine. If you zoom in and grab it you can delete it without really affecting anything - sorry about that!
