@Apehorse19 oh yeah. I forgot that not everyone will be looking directly up at the plane.

@klm747klm747 also, according to where the plane is seen, the position of the cloud and sky is different

@klm747klm747 with the speed of the jet, I think it would be hard to project the sky above it

@Blue0Bull oh right. Why haven't jets been invented that have loads of little screens on the bottom that match the sky and on the top that match the ground. Maybe too complex and heavy, and maybe even unnecessary when the airplane can fly 50,000 feet

@Blue0Bull better yet a plane that changes the color of the exterior to what is above or below it

@klm747klm747 Nope, in maneuvers the aircraft would be spotted more easily.

@Blue0Bull I've always wondered why the bottoms of military planes aren't blue and the tops green.

That makes way more sense than grey, doesn't it?

Cuz the designers forgot to add textures

because if it had a 3d image pilots would set their skins to war thunder ones

The main objective of choosing an exterior colour for a fighter aircraft is to make it least visible in the sky.

I believe, in the military the colour is known as "air superiority grey". It is also known as "low vision grey" and as the name indicates, its very adaptable and hard to spot colour in skies. The colour grey is the most difficult to perceive against a bluish background. Consequently, since the pilots' eyes are trained to focus on relative motion in the sky, they will find it more difficult to pick a grey object.
