T-35 Mod.1935

120k asteroidbook345  2.0 years ago

Before anyone asks, yes, I have this in War Thunder

-Pitch/Roll: Drive
-TargetSelected: Gun movement (I didn't want to have to manually control 5 turrets)
-FireGuns: 7.62mm DT Machine Guns
-FireWeapons: 76mm KT-28 & 2x 45mm 20-K Cannons
-Activate 1: Lights

The T-35 was a Soviet heavy tank first constructed in 1934 and put into operation in 1935 to combine the 76mm KT-28 artillery gun found on the T-26-4 prototype and the T-28 with the 45mm 20-K cannon found on the T-26, BT series of light tanks, and later the T-50 light tank. It was also equipped with two independent DT 7.62mm machine gun turrets, and 3 more in coaxial mounts with each cannon. The limited range of each turret was assisted by positioning the 45mm cannons on opposite sides to render the widest firing arc possible. 59 production model T-35s were built, some having semi-conical turrets, and some having an additional DT machine gun in the back of the main turret. 2 Prototypes were also built.

Division and Markings:
This T-35A of the 8th Mechanized Corps, 34th Regiment was stationed in Kyiv, Ukraine, and would have participated in the defense of Kyiv during Operation Barbarossa. However, during the operation the 8th Mechanized Corps was destroyed as the city fell to Nazi troops. After the war, the division was moved to Borisov, Belarus. The 8th Mechanized Corps consisted of the 12th Tank Division, 34th Tank Division, 7th Mechanized Division, 2nd Motorcycle Regiment, an artillery Regiment, an engineer battalion, and a signal battalion.

-Detailed exterior with tools and an ungodly amount of rivets
-Historically accurate armaments, gun firing arcs and performance
-Accurate sizing
-Custom suspension and tracks
-Realistic markings of the 34th Tank Division, 8th Mechanized Corps
-Auto aim on each turret, functions at any range.

-Mass: 35,310Kg (Should be heavier, the real tank is 45 tons).
-Length: 9.6m
-Width: 3.2m
-Crew: 12
-Armor: 20-30mm RHA
-Main Armament: 76mm KT-28 howitzer
-Secondary Armament: 2x 45mm 20-K cannon, 8x 7.62mm DT machine gun
-Engine power: 500hp
-Max Speed: 30.5 km/h

Huge thanks to Scratch, who invented the track method seen here and helped to calibrate them!

I'm aware of the way it drives, and unfortunately due to the complexity of the track system, not much can be done about the auto-steering. We tried to fix it, but nothing really changed. This model is also lighter than the real one, as I felt the amount of hp required to move a heavier version would result in the tracks coming off more frequently in turns. That said, do not try to neutral steer. The tracks will slide out from under the road wheels, and while it is possible to re-seat them by driving, it is not recommended you unseat them in the first place. The tank turns abysmally, however that is more due to the length (as it turns in real life) than it is the system by which the tracks are constructed. Also RIP mobile users.

This project took the better part of a week and I've been going to bed irresponsibly late in order to finish it. Some of the blueprints I used conflicted, and as a result the upper and lower glacises are not angled the way they should be. It does not affect performance.

@asteroidbook345 can you post the tracks itself?

@ThatAsian667 change the range to 10 degrees and then adjust the max and min to -0.5 or 1.2 or whatever

How did you get the rotators to have a turning range of 5 degrees or smaller?

    Create a t-28 too.

@MintLynx Yeah scratch's IS-3 has a system where the sprocket wheel is powered along with the road wheels, but doing that really only decreases track resistance due to the way rotators work in the game

@MrVocab The Road wheels at the bottom are powered by engines, while the treads themselves are not directly powered. While this isn't 100% true to real tank functionality, it doesn't stress the tracks unlike with previous attempts which use a single meshed running gear for each side.
    .
Even though the tracks aren't directly powered, they are still driven per virtue of being 'driven over' by the tank, which provides the full benefits in traction. This thing can for example climb any hill up to 45 degrees.

How do you do those tank treads?

@MintLynx yeah, I’ve done it on other things but I didn’t know it would keep the collisions from making noise

@asteroidbook345 Setting a part to 'none' in that setting effectively makes it immune to any adverse affects in collisions. A plane with all parts set to it can slam into the ground at full speed and be unharmed. It's a neat feature!

@MintLynx oh really? That’s cool I’ll make sure to do that next time

yeah, I was trying a T-80B in sp at some point, but I haven't done anything on it for months now, hell, I haven't even played sp since then.

After some tweaking I found a way to get rid of the collision noises. A mass edit via notepad++ setting the 'partCollisionResponse' of all parts to 'None'. This completely removed the noise without hindering the functions. Something to perhaps note for next time you make a tank! I know I'm thinking of making an interwar French Tank or two with this method.

@Tookan yep, or nearly all the vehicles there is, im building an SA 313B Alouette II because it is my 1st helicopter in War thunder. It also motivated me more because there is many accurate blueprints online while the game also has great models where you can check the all sorts of detail from interior to exterior.

@Mach99999 I disabled drag calculations on the rivets so they don't add to performance cost

@Simplememes You don't have to judge it if you don't want to, your challenge was 1925 and this is like way too many parts lol
