In Commission: 1981-Present

In the year 1967, during the height of the Cold War a study was performed known as Stragetic-Experimental, or STRAT-X for short. Sponsored for the purpose of assessing the future of the United States' nuclear deterrance. One such finding from this study would make clear the survivability of the then new Ballistic Missile Submarines.

Though the study found SSBN's to be the most survivable leg of America's deterrance, it also found that its SSBN force was aging and would not be able to uphold its duty for long. The need for a new submarine, alongside a greater operating range for them would result in the formation of the Undersea-Long-range Missile System (ULMS) in 1971. A Long term modernization program with two main goals in mind: A longer ranged Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) and a larger submarine to carry it.

The Results of this progam would be the Trident missile and the new Ohio Class Submarine. The first eight boats would carry the first trident, soon to carry the improved Trident II missile alongside the rest of the fleet. 18 Ohio class submarines were built, however it was decided that only 14 were expected to be needed. Four of the class, including the Ohio herself, would be taken out of the nuclear detterant force.

Instead of decommissioning the four submarines, they would repurposed into Guided Missile armed submarines (SSGN's) capable of carrying 154 Tomahawk cruise missiles each alongside provisions for Special Operations forces.

Unfortunately trying to add functional tomahawks has not worked well. For some reason the weight of the sub renders normally fully working steerable rockets almost incapable of steering. Might have an idea how to fix that but for now here's the SLBM equipped sub. I might make the fix and release an SSGN version sometime later though, but for now I hope you enjoy this!

Next up, my last of those Requests.....a certain Russian Diesel sub which is going to be quite well armed!

@Jerba Alrighty glad you did! And don't worry about the damage. It uses a Gun which has 0 damage but a high impactforce in order to propel the missile out of the water. This is present to allow submerged launch.

Yup. I use high physics and I think the problem is that the sub (I set a custom location at snow stone) sinks to around 50ish feet even if I put vtol up all the way as soon as I spawn. I little after I surface and press 2, I see the bombs go into the sub, and there is a yellow bullet coming out of the sub, saying it’s damaged a fuselage. (I’m on iOS.)

@Gameboi14 Good idea, hopefully with what the post announcing WNP78's entry into the dev team says the next update will let the camera go underwater without mods.
