Overview
The Morane Saulnier MS.406 was France’s first true modern fighter, in development for over 4 years, entering service in 1938. At that time, the 406 was a fairly advanced aircraft with retractable gear and enclosed cockpit. More impressively it’s armament included a 20mm cannon. Being the main fighter of France in 1940, the aircraft was very much outclassed by the 109s and Spitfires.
