The XM-258 Ballista High-speed Long-Range Anti-Ship / High-speed Standoff Land-Attack Missile is one of the fastest cruise missiles in the world, at a speed ranging between Mach 2.7 and Mach 3.0. It has a maximum range of just over 390 nautical miles (nmi). It can carry either a variable-yield nuclear warhead between 5KT and 475KT or a conventional warhead of up to 1100 pounds.

The missile is capable of complex maneuvers even at supersonic speed, and it uses this its advantage. As it nears its target, it will being to maneuver at an increasingly unpredictable rate until it hits. The missile is extremely accurate and thus a very serious threat to naval targets.

Cost is only about 2 million per missile.
