Here's another personal build of mine. As I mentioned when I posted the T70, it was two cars that got me into car design, and the BMW Isetta was one of them.
Why the Isetta? It was a period when I could start thinking about getting a driver's license for a quadricycle, so I curiously looked around for possible candidates, and the Microlino popped up. I didn't end up buying one (21k euros for a microcar is insane!), and as for the license, I waited to get one to drive a proper car (still work in progress).
Besides, I loved the design, and I ended up loving the original Isetta's too, so I started sketching a ton of bubble-cars, and this is the final result.
So, how about some introductions?
Much like the Microlino, it's a modern interpretation of the BMW Isetta.
It's a 2.3-meter, retro-looking microcar made for urban mobility.
Also, this is not built on the C.V.P. like my other cars, since I started development before I even built the first GIAT B0X1. So the platform uses a softer suspension set-up, and it's a bit messier in how things are integrated in the design. But the result is still on par with what I'm currently building after several redesigns and modifications (that's the reason the full name you'll find when saving it is "GIAT bubble V2-" lol)
Let's talk specs now, which aren't really impressive. It's a small 2-seater citycar, there's no need for insane 0-100s or great top speeds. The only non-small thing in this car is the range. I've been driving it for 25 km, and the fuel stayed at 100% all the time; sadly, this meant I couldn't measure it accurately.
Let's also talk about the controls. You can find them in the instructions, but here they are anyway:
-AG1= Trunk
-AG2= Ignition
-AG4= Horn
-AG6= Hazards
-Landing Gear= handbrake
-Yaw= Blinkers
-Trim= Sunroof
Everything else can be controlled via buttons or levers.
-Lore:
As Giat expanded, the company began exploring new markets for its vehicles. They were already leading in the small hatchback segment with the T70 and T140, yet realized many consumers found the T70 too large. In the U.S.E. (the company’s home market), there existed a significant demand for microcars due to government incentives for vehicles under 3 meters aimed at alleviating urban congestion. Consequently, microcars comprised about 30% of the national automobile market. The company resolved to develop a new, compact vehicle that could seat two and have a sufficiently sized boot, all within a length of 2.5 meters. However, their goal was not merely to create a smaller car; they sought a clever and stylish model that could evoke the nostalgic appeal of the T70. The new design would be rounded and roomy, featuring ample glass for enhanced visibility. It would measure 1.5 meters in width and include a front door, facilitating cross-parking even in the most cramped areas. A sunroof and a minimalist interior would complete the design. They aimed to produce a car embodying the phrase “cheap and cheerful.” Internally designated as the "T30," the vehicle would later be rebranded as the "Bubble" due to its round form. Upon its release, the car quickly became popular, surpassing its rivals as consumers grew fond of its adorable design and were attracted by its competitive pricing. This success signified that Giat had established itself in the automotive industry, specializing in affordable and compact vehicles, paving the way for its growth in the city car market.
