history

This aircraft was developed in 1942, when the efficiency of the previous As 5 aircraft began to weaken due to the fact that the enemy had highly maneuverable bombers. The As 5 could not maneuver well, and therefore with great difficulty brought them down.

Noticing this, one of the pilots (J. Airborn) proposed a project for a new aircraft. The command approved the project without even specifically considering it. Imagine their surprise when the plane gained 850 km / h without afterburner.

The next day during testing, the pilot turned on the afterburner and the plane exceeded the speed of sound. The command asked what kind of engine was installed on the plane and was very surprised to learn that there is a 2200 horsepower gas turbine ship engine was there.

A large series was ordered shortly.
