Aim9-P

Funky Trees Air-To-Air Missile

Faithful replica of the Aim9-P missile, with real dimensions, colors, and performance, including G limiter, simulated rear aspect, and the Growl! No part of this missile is guided by gyros or in-game default missiles!!!.

Player usage

  1. Fly within specified ranges below (~1-5 km) of any air target, and position your aircraft behind your target; this is a rear aspect-only missile!

  2. If you go into cockpit view, you should be able to hear a magnet going on and off, simulating the "Growl" of the Aim9 missiles;

    • When you hear the magnet slowly going on and off, it means the missile is primed and ready to lock onto a target. However you will not be able to launch the missile yet.

    • When you hear the magnet going off continuously, the missile has acquired its target and can now be launched. Press the fire weapons button (Alt key on PC) and watch the missile go

  3. You must keep the air target selected for the duration of the missile's flight in order for it to guide in correctly! If you deselect your target, the missile will assume that the target is lost and self-destruct.

Features and abilities

  • Not guided by default in-game missile or gyro
  • Accurate guidance
  • Realistic performance
  • Simulated rear aspect
  • Growl/Audible lock on warning (go into cockpit view to hear it better)
  • New proximity fuse system, almost 100% detonation rate
  • Improved proximity detonation/self-destruct parameters
  • Retains performance at high altitudes
  • Installation guide for use by yourself!

Limitatons and problems

  • The missile requires that a target be selected for the duration of its flight time in order to guide properly, or else it will self-destruct.
  • The missile's performance is dependent on the performance of your device, where a low FPS may affect the guidance of the bomb.
  • The missile has a hard time orientating itself when pointed straight up and down.
  • The missile will guide itself in a completely random direction if the it has to turn past or in between the heading 360 and 0. Simply try not to launch the bomb at or close to those headings and it should be fine.
  • The smoke generator, a small inferno missile designed to be trapped in the Aim9 missile and does nothing but create smoke may fall out of the missile from time to time. This does not impact the performance of the missile whatsoever!!!

History

While the AIM-9L fulfilled the role of the frontline all aspect dogfight missile, a need still existed for a second tier weapon for use in less demanding situations, and also suitable for export to less than absolutely trusted allies. This requirement was fulfilled by the AIM-9P family, derivatives of the AIM-9J/N. The AIM-9P-2 and P-3 were introduced in the mid seventies and use improved guidance electronics, a new rocket motor and an active optical fuse. While not receiving the publicity of the AIM-9L, the success of the weapon is testified to by the fact that no less than 21,000 have been built, with substantial numbers in the USAF inventory.

Notes

This is probably the most realisticly performing missile you will find on this website, period. A lot of emphasis was placed on researching and mincing the real-life performance of the missile, and also making it simple enough for other people to install onto their plane. This missile also aimed to fix a lot of previous issues with my build, those being poor high-altitude performances (fixed by giving the missile larger fins and scaling them down), unreliable proximity fuse (fixed by using a new system of a piston pushing a Boom 25 bomb into the fuselage, instead of hoping a rocket will smash into the fuselage), and giving the missile a G-limiter, so that it can perform more realistically.

The missile was also made to be as simple to adapt/install onto other builds. If you follow the installation guide to the T, you should have no problem getting it to work and splashing bandits in about 10 minutes.

If you do decide to use my missile and publish it, credits is appreciated.

Love your ft guided-Series as always! Kept it up! Could you maybe tell me how the code for elevation of the missile works? I'm currently working on a Tomahawk cruise missile and need some help...

@MagmaBlaster69 I believe if you just select the weapon by taping on it's name in the menu, even though it will say it's unavailable, it should still select it and you would then be able to fire it.

any way to do this on mobile since you need to press fire weapons and you can only press it when the missile is available
