Willys Overland & Ford motor companies were requested by the United States Military to build a multi-purpose vehicle to aid the battle against the axis during World War Two. The more popular Willys variation was what soldiers prefered. Ford's jeeps where more common during the 50s-70s. The name "Jeep" came from GP or General Purpose, which the jeeps met.
