@SilverStar Thanks. Theoretically, you are correct. I also experimented with a large vertical stabilizer to eliminate the need for the tail rotor, but it did not work well. For smoother handling and gaming purposes, I decided to keep the tail rotor, although I have reduced its power to a minimum.

No main helicopter propellers - it just used rotating wings with the jets on the tips. Watch this- I have proven the concept of the tip-Jet helicopter concept from the 1950s by this build. It is a controllable helicopter- good handling even with the experimental main rotors. T for tag

@Sockdragger Theoretically yes, but well.. I reduced the tail rotor to minimal for the gaming purpose. I would love to see your creation. Please feel free to modify -

Interesting concept. You might want to get rid of the tail rotor though. A self-powered rotor would make them redundant. Just a big tail plane with some control nozzles for low speeds would do.

Thinking of nozzles. Ever thought of replacing the jets with one VTOL engine and fixed VTOL nozzles on the rotor? Because if you don't, I'm going to build one.

@Johnnyynf I play on iPad, and I can't use any mods.

@WinsWings I think you should give the mod a try
From my test without limitless spin and free spin rotator and jet the max speed is around 100 RPM
Anything higher I think you'll need the mod

@Johnnyynf I did not use any mods, and it works fine. I saw that the "limitless spin mod" was created 8.3 years ago. Perhaps we no longer need that. I use FREE rotation. Set the rotation angle to zero.

@WinsWings oh btw from my test the spin limit with limitless spin mod is around 2700 RPM

@Johnnyynf give the spin limit to a few billions and that will works

Another good reason to ask dev to remove the spin limit of rotators
To similar idea, I also have this and this unfinshed build built pre 1.8

    My best attempt is this

@jamesPLANESii the fun side with this technique is, you give a better glide than a regular main rotors (since it is based on two wings)

@WinsWings Yeah helicopter blades were added in 1.8

I remember the days when something like this was the only way to make helicopters...

@Monarchii This was inspired by YH-32 Hornet, which I saw at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC last year.

What I particularly like about this is the helicopter sound or blade slap. I find that very impressive, well done.

With this type of propulsion, there is almost no torque created by the main rotor. You could almost remove the tail rotor. The french did that in the 50s, with the SO.1221 Djinn ; The turbine was producing compressed air which was injected at the tip of the rotor blades, and for yaw control, they kept some residual thrust from the turbine which was directed on a rudder. A complicated system, which is why we don't see a lot of examples.
