Strike Force Alpha Aircraft Designations: Experimental Aircrafts, XX Numerical Designation System, FA-XX vs. FX-XX, Suffix identifiers

During the first days of experimental designs, SFA created a temporary aircraft designations for the first Planes it produced; the Experimental Aircraft Number system (EAN system). Abbreviated to Exp. A No. XX. With the XX representing the numerical order which aircraft was created.

The XX numerical designation system uses the tenth digit to signify a new aircraft with its corresponding initial role. If for example, the Boeing F/A-18 was the 6th novel or original aircraft created by the SFA, it would receive the designation FA-60. If a variant is needed by the navy which needed significant alteration, it would receive the designation FA-61, meaning it’s a 6th Fighter Aircraft model with the first production modification recorded. More about the Fighter Aircraft designation below

The FX-XX designation is reserved for experimental fighters using prototype, esoteric, or experimental technologies or concepts. They are a subset of the EAN system that, after the rise of new and more technology, was essentially discarded. The FX-XX means it’s primarily a Fighter aircraft using new technologies. An aircraft with the designation FX-30 means it’s the third design using the stated experimental technology and is currently under the Experimental Branch.

The FA-XX designation is reserved for Current technology primarily Fighter Aircrafts. Compared to other countries, these are the third gen to fifth gen Aircrafts used by them. Although most of the fourth gen Aircrafts the SFA creates are given the standards of fifth gen Aircrafts. For example, the Previous example of FA-61. It means it’s the 6th Fighter Aircraft using mainstream technology with the first recorded production mod.

The suffix designation is reserved for the branches it serves. Experimental Branch officially uses the suffix XX-EX on the records but is typically dropped on other media. A more comprehensive list will be provided later
