Computer Confusion

18.8k Zippy6  5.7 years ago

Whelp I need some help from someone who knows a little more about computers than I do. Recently I haven't been able to run ANY of my games I play except for Crossout. Simple planes runs at about 10 -15fps rn. A few days ago it would run at above 30-40 easily. World of Tanks Blitz runs at like 15 sitting in the garage. War Thunder is much the same. Heroes and Generals runs at below 10. Yesterday or the day before my computer had a windows update and im not sure if that messed anything up. Do I just have to redownload my games?

Anybody else having this issue?

@DerekSP thank you very much! Sorry for asking for help with something so simple. Tho I don’t think I clicked on any suspicious links. I pretty much just play games and hardly use the web.

Yes, windows updates are known for messing things up.
    That's why I use Linux!
Anyways, the first thing I would do if I was using Windows and it slowed down would be running a deep virus scan in an antivirus of your choice (I prefer AVG) and after that giving the PC another scan using Malwarebytes.
It is very easy to get a virus on a Windows machine, literally just clicking a wrong hyperlink and it's over.
As LiamW said, take a look in the task manager.
You do that using Ctrl+Alt+Del, selecting Task Manager. Then look at the Processes tab and sort it by CPU and memory usage, maybe you'll find something suspicious.
Also look at the Performance tab, to check if the slowdown is caused by not enough memory or high CPU usage.

If cleaning doesn’t work, someone experienced will need to have a look at it. It sounds like windows is being its usual (insert expletive here) self and has (insert expletive here) your computer with updates. It should clear up within a few days and a few restarts but you may need someone to check it out properly @Zippy6

Step 1: check task manager to see if there's windows updates or anti-virus going crazy
Step 2: clean out all the dust from inside the PC, especially the fans
Step 3: scream incoherently and kick the PC into oblivion

@Botfinder I didn’t understand how I could have filled it up so much. My computer is basically brand new. I haven’t even had it for the while summer and all I’ve done is download the above mentioned games. I thought I was supposed to have like 1tb of space.
