Flying a brand new glider

1,916 Thoum  5.9 years ago

So, I spend the last two weeks in Sweden. The purpose of this vacation was mainly to fly our gliders. And I have to admit, Sweden is so beautiful from above...

But to come to a point, I flew the brand new LS8-sc neo of my gliding club, both in the 15 and 18m configuration. And it's such a cool plane. I shot some pictures of it:

Maybe I'll continue building on my ls8 neo in SP but idk

@iLikeipads It is! Also in germany you have the opportunity to use hours from a gliders license for a touring motor glider (but im not sure if it also works with a privat pilot license)

@iLikeipads What do you mean with "just" a glider? :D flying gliders is in my opinion way more fun, and if you're one of the acrobatic guys, search for glider aerobatics^^ But a Pilots license is worth anyway

@ThePilotDude but theyre very expensive, at least in germany. If you're living there or in one of its neighbour states, try a gliding club

@Thoum yeah, I've been trying to find a good gliding school around where I live

@ThePilotDude Well you'll get trained by an instructor how to properly fly a glider. Then you'll make your first solo, and then some more things follow up, aswell as the theory exam. The whole process to get my license (SPL) took me about 2.5 years, which is i think pretty normal. If you want to decrease that time, go to a gliding school, and don't fail in the theory exam xD

It generally takes about 50 flights before you go solo. @ThePilotDude

Epic! I've always wanted to fly gliders. How much training is involved?
