Idea for 'modding' on app-store mac

836 WillB88  7.5 years ago

As an Mac app-store user, apparently I cannot download mods...
I have an Idea however that could help. Maybe you could use a bit of code to import the files of a mod into the game, just like the plane import function. This could be accessed in the settings. It might be a big ask, and your obviously quite busy, but this would be a really good feature.

Having an app that is downloaded of the internet cannot make changes to an app-store app, and apple have to check each app-store app for the same reason, therefore that is out of the list. Good suggestion though.

After looking at the developer t&c's, correct me if I am wrong, the developers (and moderators) should be able to do it themselves, although, that would still take a long time, although so much smaller than apple.

@WillB88 also, it's not the devs that need to approve code. It's apple. Apple would need to review every single mod. That would be a massive waste of their time, and they wouldn't bother.

@WillB88 there are soooo many people asking for this that if there was a way it would be implemented. The aircraft files are data, not code and that's complete nonsense.

This is a great idea, albeit I think that Dropbox is already filling this role and that if the Devs were to actually do this they may get in trouble with Dropbox and/or apple

@WillB88 malware detectors miss things, Apple's not dumb enough to rely on them catching everything.

Would mods with a disclaimer pass approved?

Ah, I see, but what if the devs approved the code? That may sound stupid, but if they have to do it for the planes (with a bot I am guessing) could they not simply run a malware detector like ImperoVirus detector to scan these files?

Also, I have a game I downloaded from the App Store which allows mods, also, minecraft pocket edition has 'Behaviours' that can be made by anyone and are .json, which is a code file.

Technically then the importing planes would be wrong, because thats also code, thats not constantly being checked by apple.
