[OFFTOPIC] is roblox really bringing back chat?

18.5k Velocity250  11 hours ago

so i have seen this image going around stating that roblox has until april 22nd to remove facial age estimation, and i'm almost certain this is fake.

first of all, this is a discord screenshot so low quality you can't even read what the attached picture says, so it already increases the fake factor by a lot. secondly, COPPA stated that all companies must now have age verification, so roblox will likely not remove it.

i don't have much to say about this other than it will never happen, but let's see what will happen in about 4 months.

@Boeing727200F you ever see something so ungodly stupid you start believing that the people in charge are legitimately dementia patients?
While this isn’t quite Greenland Crisis stupid, that is still really fucking stupid.

also persona (the site that does the age verification shit) has an active lawsuit against them claiming they are holding onto information after stating they wont.

@HuskyDynamics01 like they are going to change anything.
matter of fact, roblox is now making it so that (somehow) if they find out your not acting your age they will make you do the age check again. WDYM NOT ACTING YOUR AGE IF I WALK TOO HARD WILL IT THINK IM UNDER 9?????

@Axartar Sounds like it means that Roblox will need permission from parents in order to do the facial age check ("disclosures of a child's information to train or otherwise develop artificial intelligence technologies ... would require separate, verifiable parental consent"). This may cause them to change how they do the age check, but that's up to them to figure out.

@HuskyDynamics01 Im really not savvy with american law; is this meaning that chat is likely to come back or merely the prohibition of storage of underage biometric data

    Transcript of the "Summary" image:

On June 23, 2025, a Final Rule from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) updating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) went into effect, with implications for artificial intelligence (AI). The FTC’s commentary on the Rule states that disclosures of a child’s personal information to train or otherwise develop artificial intelligence technologies are not integral to a website or online service and would require separate, verifiable parental consent. The Rule also expands the definition of “personal information” to include biometric identifiers like voiceprints and facial templates, prohibits the indefinite retention of children’s data, and mandates that operators establish and maintain a written data retention policy addressing personal information collected from children.
With certain exceptions, regulated entities have until April 22, 2026, to comply.
