you have no idea how many times i have found something interesting locked behind discord. i want to be a staff member in a now dead facility game on roblox? DISCORD. i want to get a new train in a game that i need to "boost" something? DISCORD. i want to get a modpack for minecraft. DISCORD. i want to make a livery for a plane in a game in roblox? DISCORD. if i want to see a cool build i saw on stormworks and want to download it DISCORD. i want to join a multiplayer server in rolling line? DISCORD (ok this one is sorta valid). if i want to join an event in frankly any game. DISCORD. i want to join a multiplayer SP2 server? DISCORD. i want to be able to playtest a game. DISCORD. DISCORD. DISCORD.
i do not have discord let alone want to have to go out of my way to create an account to join your discord server to find this thing i want and leave.
just give me the fucking item i want and fuck off.
and to the people who say "just get discord it aint all that bad"

@HuskyDynamics01 It’s different. Game chats come and go, but Discord is different. It’s far more permanent, but also generic. Unlike most social media, it’s more personal. Unlike a forum (e.g. SP.com), you’re kinda expected to be using it for many things. Join X’s discord, join Y’s discord, etc.
Not having it sets a very concrete boundary when dealing with people online.
Not only do I not want to join a VC for a game squad, I literally cannot. Stop asking. You’re not that important to me.
Want to contact me over discord for something? Either do it on [insert place where already communicating] or go to hell. We already have a method, do it this way.
It’s an entire mountain of bullshit so easily sidestepped by just not having it. It’s not even a matter of just saying “no” anymore, it’s an impassable wall of “fuck you”, which is so incredibly important nowadays. It’d be asking me to go through the trouble of making accounts and installing apps, which is a silly thing to ask of someone for something so petty.
TL;DR: I will not dare create even the illusion that I hold any sort of universally-applicable social obligation. Everyone I want to talk to online I already can here.

as someone who's dad doesn't let use discord because of the weirdos, i HATE it when they lock stuff behind discord. it just makes it way less accessible for people.
not to mention that patreon exists, so sometimes people lock FREE stuff behind a paywall, which is probably illegal (i haven't checked)

also I don't mean to be That Guy, but having this strong of an opinion against Discord when your last three forum posts were acting like the Roblox chat restriction was literally the end of the world is a funny contrast.

Unfortunately this makes sense as publishers are going after mod hosting sites for supposedly copyright infringement.
