Since it has happened a number of times since my last post about this subject, I would like to again make my stance clear on being tagged unprompted:

Do not tag me unprompted, unless you have a good reason for it.

Being tagged on posts when I did not ask for a tag is probably my No. 1 pet peeve on this website. It started as being annoying, but it's getting to the point it genuinely pisses me off enough that I've gone off on people who probably would've have known I feel that way (though it should be obvious that it's not polite).

Putting someone in a tag block without having asked, and for no reason specific to that person, is entitled as it is begging for attention unearned. Honestly, it's demeaning as it treats someone like they can be summoned completely arbitrarily to do oneself a favour. It's never about showing them something interesting, it's about promoting yourself.

There are exceptions where I'll be okay with unrequested tagging:
-If a post is relevant to me (e.g. important to an event I'm part of, though this is rare)
-If it's from someone I know/am friends with (though I still expect a reason, the standards are not as stringent)
-The post is especially interesting (usually something very old, but this from a total stranger would be odd. It'd be like showing a cool stick to some random person on the street...)
-It's done as part of a joke (I've done this several times myself, including recently)

Under those conditions I'll usually be fine with a tag I didn't ask for, since there's a reason that specifically pertains to me in some fashion. That, or it's satire.

However, tagging me on a post for no reason other than hoping you'll get an upvote or spotlight - when I've made no such promises - is a very effective way to get yourself on the path to my bad side.

I should hope people can understand this.
