Sooo yeah. I nearly lost hours upon hours of work because....
A typo seemingly launched an unknown part out hundreds of kilometers, causing the craft itself to become impossible to find.
This is, and I cannot stress enough, BAD.
I'm sure this has been brought up before, but frankly there is no excuse for this. This is probably the last major change SP1 needs because it is a game-breaking issue at times, leaving craft unrecoverable.
All because of a typo going unnoticed when moving parts.
It might be possible to use file editing to locate and remove the offending part, however my attempts to follow file path instructions online did not net me anything because file explorer is a useless program that refuses to do its job.
I still did lose work because I had to undo a bunch of stuff in order to reach a version that wasn't hundreds of kilometers long. If it had happened earlier before I caught it, overwriting the step saves...
@Axartar there’s time tuner for that, at least, but I really hope SP2 isn’t so restricting.
YES. I tried making an obelisk from Ark S.E. and i couldnt reach the god damn top. I lost parts up there and I cant even see them to retrieve them. I was having to use stupid large fuselage to pray I could attach to it and bring it down.
@32 I see
@Graingy all it does is show the hidden folders in the file explorer, so no there’s not a performance hit or any change in file structure
I second this.
Still, not a proper solution for a very easy mistake to make.
@32 you can turn off hidden folders?
I assume doing so slows things down…
@Graingy also the reason you can’t find LocalLow is because it is by default a hidden folder. You can change a setting to show hidden folders or you can copy/paste the file path into Explorer with your computer username substituted.
Every PC has a LocalLow folder, idk why they make it hidden that’s stupid. I just turned off hidden folders.
Find your aircraft file path (should be able to do this in Steam iirc, just find the game files)
Ctrl+F to find the location xml attribute (idk what it’s called)
Change the one that’s a really big number
@Graingy Yeah. It’s not game breaking but I dislike it moving from perfectly centred to -0.01 for like no reason lol
@Strucker That is annoying, but at least it doesn't break the entire file.
My favourite part of building in SP is when the craft just shifts about in the builder for no conceivable reason when making actions like mirroring, undoing, redoing, etc.
@Graingy exactly, and honestly, that's a decent analogy to describe most big tech companies nowadays
@YarisHatchback Varying shades of brown, some with more red in them than others.
Some insist they're "green", but I think that's just spinach.
@Graingy then again all big tech companies are also no different so...
@YarisHatchback Exactly. Meaning it can't be relied upon.
@Graingy that's just windows/microsoft being an a▇▇hole
@Graingy I don't know why it doesn't exist then, because it does for me. Oh well...
@PlaneFlightX Ah, but you see,
No such folder exists in file explorer.
I hit undo until the problem went away (sort of, a connections solution I'd worked out was lost), so it's been "resolved", however it's still a serious issue that the developers need to address. It's way too easy to basically ruin a craft file.
@Graingy
C:\Users\user\AppData\LocalLow\Jundroo\SimplePlanes\AircraftDesigns
If you want, you can just upload the plane normally and I'll have a look
@PlaneFlightX I mean, how to find the file? Because I said pretty clearly that guides to find craft files lead nowhere.
Extremely impractical too if there's hundreds of parts, like in my case.
This really just needs an actual fix.
@Graingy Open the relevant xml file in a text editor, search for the part (can be hard if it's a random part), and change the coordinates. Then, save it and reload in SP.
@PlaneFlightX Which is done how, exactly?
And how would the part be identified?
Just go into the xml and delete the problematic part (or set its position to something similar to the rest)
