[SUGGESTION] SP Users Wiki Page

128k LunarEclipseSP  yesterday

Since we have a wiki page of the SimplePlanes game, why don't we make the Wiki page that is about the users of SimplePlanes? Maybe much like a WikiTubia thing but instead of Youtubers, it's about SimplePlanes known users and players (or top users and seniors), it would features the dev teams, moderators, and community manager.

@Dissent3R This is just conceptual idea, I don't even expecting this to be actually made...

SP users don't need a wiki page, trust me, this game isn't that big outside the community

@WaterFlavouredSpitfires Correct! That one which is affiliated with Wikipedia. It is literally ad free and less annoying. The name is MediaWiki or something... But that's the point though.

@LunarEclipseSP Aren't they affiliated with wikipedia?

    @WaterFlavouredSpitfires I mean, they basically ad-free. Even if it's still ads it ain't a pop-up ads.
Or the Wiki page used by Official Minecraft Wiki or Official TF2 Wiki page.
Oh I get the platform name. It is called MediaWiki or WikiMedia or something idk but it is... I'm not really a website geek or programmer.

@LunarEclipseSP wiki,gg is probably the best wiki service i used honestly (Ace combat wiki) and it it's really natural and doesn't shoot ads at you still with an adblocker???

@WaterFlavouredSpitfires aggre-able. Either way, wiki.gg or any wiki-based sites just like what it used by Official Minecraft Wiki & Official TF2 Wiki page is the best settlement I might say. Fandom site is really messy and covered with ads and you know, those annoyingly video playback thingy that we couldn't just turn off.

Actually, I rather like this coloured forums idea....

This would devolve into bickering over popularity so damn fast.
Terrible idea, honestly. At least in an "official"/centralized manner.

While I can see how some may find it appealing, issues include:
-People prioritizing becoming "important" enough to get a page.
-Possible inability for someone to remove their own page if they want to leave the site permanently (even worse if information about them is spread across many pages retelling the same information for different topics).
-Bias and defamation, where pages would be vandalized to make someone look bad (even if throwaway alts are blocked with point minimums, more minor but insidious changes could still be damaging if they aren't picked up on as false/exaggerations/things that should just be left in the past).
-Probably more things that don't come to mind in the moment.

Honestly I think the forums need a rework.
While I've suggested an improve tag feature in the past (whitelisting/blacklisting from a multi-select menu, etc.), I think a "wiki" type page could be helpful. Though devoted people can do that already with unlisteds and forums (though slow due to [admittedly understandable for technical reasons] post limits, with forum clogging also being an issue), a type editable to multiple people could be handy. Being able to add new pages without needing an unlisted craft file being uploaded or clogging forums would be useful.
Note that this would be done entirely by individuals/small groups of players, not by the site itself/Jundroo or the community at large.
For example, a specific RP could set up a wiki edited by approved members. Either they'd work collectively, or the wiki's creator (presumably the head of the RP) would delegate each member their respective page(s) to work with.

In short, a central wiki would be a terrible idea, but a site wiki creation feature (which wouldn't really add any strain on the servers which doesn't already exist) would be very, very helpful.
At the very minimum, an unlisted/not shown in feed (but still on account) forum type (perhaps a different colour aside from green to tell apart) would suffice.

Is it possible to prevent people from writing about themselves though, seems like it could become a second bio thing

Well, knowing what the hell happened in the Siren War/Monarchii War/KE-RP without digging suuuuper deep would be nice. I don't want it to be limited to just users on this site. Also, most profile descriptions on this site aren't descriptive enough, so knowing what they are, what their builds and exploits are, what their contributions generally to SimplePlanes are would also be nice.

So what site are we going to make the wiki on? fandom or wiki.gg? or something else?

@Dracul0Anderson Yes. Unfortunately, I find the wiki very basic and lackluster, as everything in the wiki is stuff I already know, and none of the real nerdy and complicated "Jet fuel sniffing" knowledge are in there afaik. Quite sad.

I'm talking about https://simpleplanes.fandom.com/wiki/SimplePlanes_Wiki of course.
