A concern about SP2

9,237 GrandmasterPotato  2 days ago

I’ll start off by saying that I love the work the Devs are putting into SP2, and I don’t really have anything negative to say about the game other than this one small critique.

I love this game, it’s entertained me for years, and the part that is always the most satisfying and enjoyable is the building. It takes a lot of effort to make a nice plane, car, boat, etc, and it really makes the good planes on this site stand out for the greatness they are. After thinking about the most recent devlog on wings and fuselages, it made me think of Juno New Origins. They are clearly doing a lot to make the building experience a more polished experience, which I definitely appreciate. But I’ve always felt that in Juno New Origins, the building isn’t as fun. It takes a lot less effort to make a good craft in that game with all the quality of life things that have been added over the years, and the experience feels more fun when you are actually flying your craft.

TLDR: I’m concerned that building may be too easy and remove some of the fun in the challenge

I do NOT have fun doing something that should have been easier like realistic wing shape, interior or other things that should not be unnecessarily complex. Maybe it's just me because i'm lazy. Or maybe because all I want is to pour my ideas and imagination and I hate it when it's unnecessarily hard to do so.

A painter may have all the tools they needed to paint a masterpiece but the quality of their painting still depends on how well they use those tools. We may have all the new features in SP2 that will make it easier to create stuff, but how we use those features will determine the end products.

And on the countrary, it adds a new challenge; how do you make yours unique amidst the equally beautiful creation? When everyone could come out with something amazing, how would you make yours stands out?

You can build planes however you choose. It may come to fruition that a custom airfoil or multi layer fuselage might be the only way to get the perfect look you want. Me? Nah I'm using ALL the new gadgets and gizmoz.

It's fuselage slicing all over again

    @SupremeDorian makes sense.
@box that… makes sense actually. Explains how I got those points on SR.

@sprunki in the early days of sr2/jno, if you had an account on sp with a certain amount of points you got 100 points on the sr site. the same works in the inverse as well. I think the cool sigma name also helps

The skill floor is going way up, yes, but with it the skill ceiling will go up too. New players will be able to much more easily make the things they want, and experienced players will be able to skip the tedious tasks they had to go through in SP1 and focus more on pushing the new boundaries.

"It takes a lot less effort to make a good craft in that game with all the quality of life things that have been added over the years" unreal logic here.

Oh the challenge is definitely still there. Just because the tool gotten better doesn't mean everyone suddenly becomes the Picasso of aircraft design. The skill, time, and effort needed to make incredible (and functional) builds remains as sky high as ever.

While that is true to an extent, I think Dissent3R has a good point.
On the other hand, I fear that it will result in the top spots being dominated by whoever happens to have a background in programming, with no room for anyone else.

there is definitely an element of that though on the other side making builds at the same level of detail will take 1/10 the amount of time, and i personally believe there will be all new forms of voodoo with the new parts. its like when fuselage slicing came out; everything before it became instantly obsolete but you could make far more advanced shapes with 1/10 the amount of parts than previously

I discussed something like this in an sp server, the bright side is builds will now be rated more on functionality and performance rather than just looks, as basically everyone can now build good looking planes. Meanwhile, funky trees coding didn't get any easier so we'll get to see builds that actually fly right at the top as opposed to merely looking good. You won't believe how many widebodies on this site takeoff in 5 seconds...

@SuperSuperTheSylph it is, especially the new fuselages

i believe it won't be that hard for players familiar w SP1
honestly, how they made the wings is in some way a QOL(quality of life) improvement

If anything it would become more of a challenge because of the more opportunities, building techniques, funky trees/vizzy. I think it’s gonna be pretty tough to master
