Hello.
I've been trying to model an extremely large aircraft carrier, the Soviet Apollyon, however have run into a rather substantial issue.
Apollyon is 915m long. Rather large, and the game doesn't like large craft.
HOWEVER!
Compare the AS-AC-10, a very similarly long and much bulkier craft. Despite its much higher part count and greater weight by a factor of two than even the 1x mass Apollyon model, it loads without issue. No game crashes. Loading screen immediately.
At half intended scale the Apollyon model barely loads, with a long pause before going to the black loading screen. I'd wager that if I switched screens it'd crash, as it did when I did as such while waiting for the specifications page to open.
At full scale it just crashes when trying to load flat-out.
Anyone know why this happens? It's EXTREMELY annoying and is completely preventing me from building this model.
The model can be found in its very primitive state here.
Answers would be very strongly appreciated.
Figured it out.
Turns out it was the number of parts with drag. Also Fine Tuner automatically scales drag, it seems. meaning that when a craft with 20k drag points is increased 20 fold in size...
Yeah. Ugly.
Anyhow, putting all drag into a couple parts helps majorly.
Before you ask, drag points are very similar, within a couple thousand of each other.
@Kikikokikomarumaru15000 Jumpscare warning next time, eh?
See pinned comment. It was number of parts with drag.
@Graingy Disregard my previous comment, I was wrong. If that was true, then how do builds like these run so smoothly? I'm dead sure it's because calculateDrag is false. I upscaled a dragless fuselage part into MASSIVE PROPORTION and the loading did fine.
@Noname918181818181818181 That's odd? I swear it was a lot lower...
Maybe it was an update glitch with fine tuner. That tool is a bit jank.
@Kikikokikomarumaru15000 Not sure how I'd do that. I'll need to run some tests with part dimensions, it seems.
@Pnut Again, drag is very similar to a vehicle that runs fine. Perhaps it's the number of parts with drag? I'll have to check what the AS-AC-10 does for its drag.
@crazyplaness Not a single label.
@Boeing727200F Well, I also couldn't run SimpleCraft for some reason. Black loading screen would freeze.
I think the game doesn't like loading in very big parts (like a comically big fuselage block) for some reason. I'm talking about how much volume it takes up in the 3D space. When I looked at the AS-AC-10, I found that most of the individual fuselage blocks don't take up as much space (exception being the bottom part, but I think it's not that big of a deal because it doesn't take much space still). Compared to Graingy's Apollyon Model 1, every part there is a greedy fuck that takes up alot of space, and because of that, the game has to load in every comically large parts and that strains the game I think.
I think what matters much more is the volume it takes up in the 3D space rather than the size alone. Try making the Apollyon again but try not to let the parts take up so much space.
T
(T means tag) me on this Apollyon matter thingy, and I'll see if my hypothesis is wrong or not..
EDIT!!! I was wrong.
The drag points are not similar to each other at all lmao, AC-10 has 21,930 drag points while your Apollyon has a whopping 1,521,828
That's one million and a half. You do not need that much drag
ran the ship, everything loads and works for me just fine.
like i said before i dont think the ship WANTS to be loaded by you.
:/
i think the ship doesnt WANT to be loaded
Text label images can make loading really slow
Uhh, maybe set drag to zero? Just a tip from a newbie tho
