Hey everyone. If you don't already know, @RestlessGalaxies has been hosting a challenge to make a 6th-generation fighter aircraft, previously known as the "120 upvote challenge". While not an official challenge, due to the high amount of attention it's received we have decided to officially sponsor its rewards. The first, second, and third place winners will receive 2500, 1500, and 1000 points respectively, immediately added to their account by me. If you're interested in giving it a go, please feel free to check it out. The deadline is May 23, have fun :)
@Axartar Points are in infinite supply. Anyone can get them given time.
Features only available to those who won a challenge is different. Not everyone can just "get good" enough to win one, especially since by definition they're in competition with everyone else.
@Graingy think of it like more pretty rocks, god forbid maybe some seashells
@Axartar But the point is that they really don't. This is like people fighting over a pretty rock.
Giving actual additional functions is more like, I dunno, giving someone lightning powers in exchange for blood sacrifice.
@Graingy points have a meaning whether or not you like them too, people sweat out ranks or beg for upvotes/seek validation using them, may as well get a pretty border too
@Axartar Points are not supposed to have purpose!
It's been made clear many, many times that they're intended to be meaningless. If they had a purpose beyond spotlighting then people would fight a lot more to get them.That would utterly wreck the community.
I've already got my LF-52 and a wip NGAD model
But gosh, the fbw stuff...
@Graingy I suppose, but I feel like points need more purpose, because from 25k up there’s nothing, so a fancy colour or border or smth when you win a competition, would be neat, this would be temporary ofc to allow other people to poach it. But they would fulfil a similar role to points anyway, the people with infinite time & skill would still pan out on top, but they’d have a little more reason to enter comps.
@Axartar I dunno, I feel like that’d remove the egalitarian aspect of points. Anyone can get them, and they’re in infinite supply. All they measure is how much “happiness”, for lack of a better word, a person has brought to the site. They don’t have too much meaning, accordingly, so having twice someone else’s points doesn’t mean much on its own.
Bringing in another form of reward on the face of a profile (therefore, not tucked away into a relevant craft’s page) would kinda destroy this. The only way to get one would be to beat a lot of other people, many of whom have waayyyy too much time on their hands to place individual bolts on a fuselage.
Points are interchangeable, such a badge would not be. We don’t need a sign saying “I’m better than you” on the front of someone’s account.
@Graingy yesssss, or like a badge for your bio or smth, also same, normal vtol planes are kinda boring
@Graingy yes
Dang, I had nothing to submit. Especially I'm currently busy on life/irl stuff so I had less time to build something... Really-really intentional
While I have no interest in joining, would those points be attributed to the craft in the points page? It'd make the most sense that way.
... Hmm, maybe the site needs, like, a Big Upvote feature. Just a comically large upvote in the list.
@Graingy
I was wrighting my comment while you commented
Hmmmmmmm. 6th gen huh. I might be able to do that. Just give me some time
I'm here too
