Funny thing about site culture, though, is that I think upvotes are given out more readily now.
Look at my account. 6 years old.
Only just over a year ago did I get Silver. A few months ago I got Gold.
Now I'm at 12.6k. Things speed up as you gain connections.
Interact with people! Make friends! It is greatly benefits your rise, and, arguably more importantly, makes the site far more fun to be on.

Don't get your hopes up too soon

As panzer said, you need 25k for platinum, 5k for gold, and 1k for silver.
I would like to add that if my memory still serves me, you get 2 points per forum upvote.
