Countermeasures difference

flares vs chaff
Are there any difference? In sp i mean not irl
I always use flares against destroyers that escort uss beast and also in ai dogfights
It appears that it works really good
However if i use flares in a heli hovering mid-air it sometimes fails to force missile to lose lock (irl you actually have to dodge and get out of missile way i know this much but I'm not sure how game is coded to work)

@XtarsAgency are you drunk my dude
I just said "Missiles in SP only look for your cockpit's location"
    you can test this yourself
make an aircraft without a cockpit
no one can lock on you or see you

I always thought chaff prevented planes from locking onto you, and flares had a chance to make missiles miss you after they're fired. Is that not the case?

@XxRxX larger crafts are more harder to get lock out since they have a larger area, so you need more countermeasures. And its much more easier with a smaller craft because It just have a smaller surface area aside from large planes

@XtarsAgency well first i have to point out that (as far as I know) chaff is not really hot.
It's just tiny metal particles that create noise or confusion on radar so it can't distract heat seekers (only works on radar guided ones)

Another thing is that in SP the sizes of your builds doesn't effect missile tracking
Missiles in SP only look for your cockpit's location

So the closer your countermeasure is to your cockpit the easier to distract missiles

Now I'm not sure if missiles in SP have a limited targeting angle integrated into them (because irl missiles with smaller targeting angle is more resistant to getting fooled by flares, they simply don't look outside that cone).

@HuskyDynamics01 chaff, is not as great as flares. Lemme explain
Chaffs shoots clouds of hot metal, and unless you placed a bunch of it, then it will work, chaffs is not great if you are a slow moving targets (such as helis)(in sp).
Flares is great for helicopters since they are spammable and you only need 1 dispenser and shoot it 5 times (depends to the size of your craft) and it will unlock the missile, unlike chaffs which is basically all of the dispenser. Flares are great for rather large sized crafts such as Cargo planes or military planes, fighters and helicopters. While chaffs will work better for smaller stuffs like tanks, cars or basically an arsenal car which is basically good because the chaff cloud is dispersing its hot metal and making a cloud of smoke that basically made a smoke screen for Missiles.
    So
Flares for Planes or flying crafts
Chaffs for cars, tanks or ground crafts

In SimplePlanes, there's no functional difference between chaff and flares other than the visual appearance (and the launch force parameter for flares). One will work as well as the other.

    A flare however is different

If so then Chaff and Flares are the same thing for a plane
