The logic behind upvotes on the site

28.2k 32  1.2 years ago

Is your plane not getting upvotes? Maybe I can explain why. In my experience, upvotes can be gained via 5 routes:

1. Build Quality
your plane is more likely to get upvotes if it is well made.
Example
2. Click Attraction
People see a cool name or a cool thumbnail and they click on it. A plane with a good name and thumbnail will be more likely to receive upvotes because the average person is more likely to see it.
Example
3. Uniqueness
People are more likely to upvote something they've never seen before.
Example
4.Humor
Funny stuff gets more upvotes because people find it funny. As a side note, just because you think its funny doesn't mean it actually is.
Example
5.Natural Upvotes/Sympathy
Some people just get upvotes for no reason. Maybe they have that one follower that upvotes everything, or maybe they're just a privileged platinum. (sorry BeastHunter)
Example

If you're reading this trying to figure out how to get more upvotes, my advice is this: be active in the community. Follow people, comment, and upvote, but most importantly post planes often and strive to make them better in any way possible. Or you can just shamelessly advertise random stuff you built

To be honest though, do upvotes really matter? You should spend your time having fun playing the game, and if you get a few internet points along the way, good for you! As Korzalerlke has very helpfully pointed out:

You'll probably enjoy the game more if you build stuff because you want to, and not because you're expecting upvotes.

Don't let the game give you anxiety. Play your way, and most importantly, Have Fun!

Or, play for fun and ignore the pointless internet numbers.

You'll probably enjoy the game more if you build stuff because you want to, and not because you're expecting upvotes.

@Mousewithamachinegun122 it was just a crappy plane made by beasthunter to prove that he had so many followers that he couldn't avoid getting upvotes even if he didn't deserve it

Or you can combine strategies 2 and 6 like this:

Not sure how mine gets upvotes
Probably because of the rarity (I don't post very often)

This should help. My ire over upvotes mostly comes from from the fact that despite the work I put into my stuff, I don't get the upvotes to reflect it.

For me, actively following Upvotes is a complete rejection of not only Sci-Fi (since there are a lot of players for hyperrealism in the SP community) and generally rejection of Tanks (since there are a lot of Plane funs in the game).

The last point is like death to me.

    1) Not always the case, it often happens that low quality builds made in less than an hour get a lot of votes.

    2) Yes, it's better to take screenshots on a PC where there are HD, Shaders and Mod maps. Especially if the main screenshot is a character from a popular anime.

    3) In the game, replicas are most often voted, especially for A-10, F-series, Su- series, AC-130, and so on.

    4) Yes, you can make popular memes in this time period.

    5) Yes.

@ZeroWithSlashedO and in my opinion, one shouldn’t be overly hyped on getting platinum, because once you reach it the points become effectively meaningless

I still look at my point number and try to get upvotes for my builds, but I prioritise what I want to build over how many upvotes it’ll get.

I receive upvotes keeps me motivated, getting less making me question my build. Simple as that

another tip is to build things compatible with VR, and if your construction is cured you will earn double points for each upvote

also, build quality to points ratio.
if i build something cool no one really cares.
if a bronze player builds something equally cool theyre gonna get more upvotes.

if you're aiming for that upvote points, just don't

you're essentially going to be losing what potential you have in you, by limiting the fact that you just want upvotes

people with an aim of getting upvotes usually when they don't get enough upvotes, they'll try to cope and seethe by complaining about why does this other dude seem to do better when he has practically the same quality build as you do
and soon enough, they'll lose motivation and interest in building because they won't get enough stupid internet points, and essentially be depressed

    so my advice, just don't
as Korzalerke said, you'll enjoy the game more because you enjoy building, pushing yourself to the limit instead of... whatever you're trying to do with those stupid and useless internet points
