The most likely way this would have happened is by credential stuffing (trying known email/password pairs that have been leaked from other services online). I don't advise clicking on dodgy links from these bots of course, but the best way you can keep your account secure is by making sure that you use a strong password for your SP account and don't use the same password on multiple online services. You can also use the tool HaveIBeenPwned to check if your information has been included in known data breaches. It probably has. If you've had the same password for as long as you can remember, maybe it's time to set a new one, or start using a password manager that generates secure randomised passwords.

@BeastHunter Tag me on it if you can remember to, my memory is about as good as a 30 year old HDD so otherwise I'll probably only see it after it's out for 2 months.

@BeastHunter I wonder if there's chaos in the SR2 site as well, I'll go check.

Edit: nope, seems this mess hasn't spread there yet, except for the one post warning about it.

@temporaryplanetester They’re not aiming. This is an evolving pandemic and everything we think we knew is coming undone.

And now they got a platinum as well.

This is really getting out of hand, they're not even aiming at dead accounts anymore, that user made a comment 3 days ago.

i've changed both my SP and SR2 password too, now they have more characters and extended diversity, what's interesting is that i've actually already changed them both fairly recently (like december 2022 or around that)

I have reported multiple of these; it appears to have been dealt with.
    .
I agree with temporaryplanetester. We do not know yet what kind of threat it might pose to our accounts, and some theories are more terrifying (e.g. brute force access by singing in multiple passwords at once). Is it some website vurnelability, I don’t know, Junior cannot afford high-tech security layers as they are small and make little money. So, for now, keep reporting these spam forum posts and see wether these accounts have the chance to get restored or not.

@Nerfaddict consider the user base of this website (hundreds of thousands perhaps), most are inactive white ranked compared to only ten pages of plat users. It’s not likely to happen, unless your curiosity leads you to click on that link.

@realSavageMan Probably the worst bot problem we have had, considering this time you could get your account hacked through means no one is sure of yet.

If this goes on for too long and no one can figure out what is causing this, I'll just assume it's some website vulnerability and try to find it before too many accounts get hacked into.
