If your plane looks sick in the thumbnail, ok that's normal. But it it still stands up to the challenge in the cross section, then it's a good plane, because a Super Size french fry thumbnail looks like a soggy potato in the cross section. I am personally guity (repeat offender) of this. I just thought this was sorta relateable.
Some of my own planes that look good in thumbnails, but not in cross sections:
The art of taking a good thumbnail is hiding parts you don't want seen. If you look closely, you see a piece of a tire from gear that sticks out. I think judging off of thumbnails are wei too misleading

Perhaps I need to make thumbnails from cockpits then.
(I have been making 100% working cockpits since just before FT existed...)
Most planes have a tendency of looking worse but not bad in the cross-section.
the plane of which you gave as an example, in my opinion, doesn't look so good in the thumbnail either, the decals that stick out, the fuselage back stabilizer, and the stock control surfaces.
A cross section is only there to give you an idea of proportions etc.
(and it usually always looks terrible)
