There's a way to game the system, that is, planes stay featured for 1 week (I think) so try to post your feature-worthy creation when at least one of the featured planes is 6 days old or so. That will give it 24 hours to gain popularity, then the devs might see it! Again, it's all up to timing, quality and a fat slice of chance. [I followed these rules, but never got featured (prolly because none of my stuff is that great)] :\
In addition to this, you should ask people to comment and tell you what they do/don't like about your planes! Also, try posting them around 14.45 PDT or so. Most of the community is American schoolchildren, so they'll see it after school and before dinner - definitely the busiest time on the site.
Let me tell you something, friend. Don't worry about the downloads. You're better than most already, as you don't care about upvotes. You should be sharing planes with the community because you think they're cool.
@Warbrine 1960s is my favorite. Last I heard my parents were considering buying a '67 Mercedes 280SE 4.5, Lemon Ice color with a sunroof! What fun that would be :D
@ChiChiWerx best plane I've uploaded is probably my Aircarrier Retrofuture, 11 upvotes in 24hrs. Other than that it's usually 1-5 upvotes in the first few hours then it fades away.
As Skua said. If you want maximum effect, upload around 14.30 PST/PDT. Most of the users around here are American school-age children, and get dismissed around then. The east-coasters will be relaxing before dinner, and the west-coasters will be seeing them once getting home after school. Later in the morning or anytime in the afternoon during the weekend is good too. Otherwise your crafts will be passed over in the newest section.

I have a few friends abroad so if I email them and include the date, or something, they'll always say something like "you darn American, you got the date right for once!" lol

Hey if you're on iOS try backing up your phone (which will include the .XMLs), deleting the SP app, redownload, and restore from backup? Should work, has for me on iOS 9.2.1

I like everything except the laser guns. Lasers would be great...i.e. for aiming, but not as weapons themselves. Everything else would be cool!
