Ok, the gist of what believe (I hate typing lol). I know that the CBF is a symbol of racism to people. Sorry to them. It's unfortunate that they feel offended or hurt by the flag. But I am not offended, so I will NOT step down from what I believe for other people's "feelings". If you go and ask people what their opinion is, most people will agree that the south was bad, slavery is bad, racism is bad, ok cool. But the flag? A small percentage of people go around and complain and make a huge deal about it being bad. Also a small percentage of people use it as a modern symbol of racism and white supremacism. So we are left with the middle group of people (the majority) who simply can co-exist with it. Why do we have to cause turmoil when most people could care less about its meaning? Yes the CBF does mean slavery and the things of the CSA, but alternatively it does mean other things (ex. Southern Pride, rebellion against authority). you can pick one side, both sides, or no sides. But yes I agree with your "facts" on how it means slavery to a percentage of people.
People try to overdramatize things in history, and the Confederate battle flag is one example. I agree, that the flag is made out as a symbol of the Confederacy. And I agree that the south was racist and pro-slavery. Yes, the KKK and others use the Confederate flag as a white supremacist emblem. So technically you could connect the dots and say "Oh, the Confederate flag is a symbol of racism and slavery!" Look at this picture. Yes, you see the Confederate flag. But what else do you see? Right, the American flag. This one too. Does this mean that the American flag is a symbol of racism and hate? No! Just because someone uses something for something, doesn't mean that that is what it means and what defines it. Most of those people that fly Confederate flags at their homes and on their trucks are definitely not "anti-American"! I fly the Confederate as a symbol of Southern Pride (which is not slavery), not racism. Most people want to forget the drama and let people fly their flags, because in today's modern society, a huge reason why people think its racist is because other people make a huge deal about it.
.
There is a difference with, let's say, the Nazi flag or the Soviet flag. Those flags were designed with the purpose of showing their beliefs, and they have succeeded. The hammer and sickle represent the farmers and laborers working together for a better world, and basically communism. Hitler was a nut job and just thought his flag would look "cool", so the symbols like the swastika have no meaning for anything on the Nazi flag, other than Nazism. The symbols on the CSA battle flag have nothing to do with their stance on slavery. The cross represents the cross of St Michael, with the stars representing the 13 colonies. I don't see slavery and white supremacism in there. So that's what I believe.
.
Most people that support the Confederate battle flag are not evil. I support it, and for heaven's sakes I have black friends! The majority are pro-American, anti-slavery, and not racist people. The flag is not evil, nor was it made to be a symbol of racism, and the majority of people show it as Southern or American pride.
Yes I agree that it can be looped into the same category as with the Nazi flag. But I when I go and talk about how I support the Confederate Flag, people know I’m not racist or pro slavery, because they I know I’m not, and that’s not what I believe this flag means. People can use anything to symbolize anything, and I personally don’t symbolize this flag as “racist”. @ThePilotDude
I understand. I'd like to apologize for the argument we had earlier about the flag, can we just move on and not talk about it? I'm not backing down on my point, and I know you won't on yours, so let's just forget about it and move on. Sound like a plan? @ThePilotDude
