I would say Germany was much farther along in terms of technology than any other country. They started developing ways to get atomic weapons in the 1930s. The only thing that stopped them was Einstein fleeing to the US, and the allied bombing raids. Germany also had weapon and plane concepts still unthinkable today. @QingyuZhou
