but in africa the economy was failing even before the 80s
people were spending rare and expensive minerals for weapons and war
that lead to other countries taking over and running the government and stealing the rare and precious minerals

it was the leaders that made those choices and the people reacted to it
there are ways communism could be successful but usually isn't because of power hungry leaders
