@TheOwlAce Yeah it would but who knows if/when they'll release it? Lots of other considerations have to be put in place for it. With the development of better arms has always come the development of armor. (Look into the history of Krupp werks, I think it was.) Then if they come up with an ammo capacity for surrounding areas essentially all predecessor designs would still look just as mean but have 0 ammo capacity. XD Still it would be preferable to the present situation. I swear my "corvette" would weigh thrice her weight if I had to account for ammo! A spoiler on that one is that she's a commerce raider and coastal patrol ship but (naturally) can't stand up in a serious firefight though planes have little chance of getting close enough to do much more than fire one burst before they go boom from the AA guns. The lag from the design has reduced the range of the main guns to about that of a normal gun - MAYBE a bit further in a broadside attack. After the last refit her top speed was 52 mph but I have one other major series of refits that will increase her drag considerably - radar arrays. >.<

Oh, a little tip for Double A; Take out two miniguns, and set them together. Rotate one a quarter of the way but still facing the same direction then nudge them together. It seriously makes it look like a twelve barreled minigun! XD

GREAT work, love the additional toys it came with, a regular bathtub play set. lol Oh, here's a pic ... I don't know how to display images so I'll just put the link here ... the caption is; "A rare photo of the aquatic creature known only as "Beast" carrying its young to safer waters." lol

@DeezDucks Mind if I use your' radar dish from the Takao on my "corvette?"

  • New Parts Requests & Suggestions 9.2 years ago

@BenAtennyson & @PINK Oh yeah, that would be NICE for determining the intake size necessary before loading it on the runway or water and for true customization. It's bad that we have to mod/carefully nudge slim inlets into a fuselage block just to get the look of a round inlet when many of the early jets had that look. It'd be handy for what I mentioned about inline engines as well. A chin intake under the engine, a half circle only about half as wide and deep as the engine itself or one or two mounted under the center of the fuselage or under the wings....

@Flightsonic Aaah there is some truth about this new rotator??? Woooo!! I can hardly wait ... aw dang it I'll have to redesign half my builds after that. XD

  • New Parts Requests & Suggestions 9.2 years ago

@TehDuckFather That would simplify SEVERAL matters. I could get rid of HALF of my subassemblies if they opened it up that far!! lol

  • New Parts Requests & Suggestions 9.2 years ago

@TehJetMan Yes it sacrifices a -little- of the simple aspect but it opens up infinite possibilities. The pulley and wheel/axle are two of the founding simple machines. The drive train is just a simplified expression of transferring the force from the engine in differing directions, such as the axles of ground vehicles, helicopter tail rotors, the P-39/63 mention made, etc. I didn't ask for a transmission with customized gear shifting or anything. It'd be GREAT if they would allow reversing it mid use too but I didn't even include that in the requirement to keep it real simple. lol

  • Armour plating. 9.2 years ago

lol I suggested this as well or, at the very least, if the bullet passes through and doesn't strike anything critical its basically like not getting hit at all. I had a pretty long piece on that a while back, regarding fuel containing sections and so on - but I agree, we need armor of some kind to protect our heavy builds OR even just critical parts of our aircraft at the expense of weight and performance issues.

My "Corvette" hasn't been killed by a plane - yet - but it's armed to the teeth with anti-aircraft guns that are strong and nasty enough to not bother wasting missiles or the heavy cannons on Tiny. Rake her from stern to bow with side mounted minigun turrets and after "popping" six times or so her icon disappears and she quickly sinks. That said I've toasted several planes during development runs that have approached either with hostile intent or just buzzing around me like an annoying fly. Consider the reverse - if they can kill our ships/airplanes in one shot why can't we do the same with their ships??? (Okay so my primary cannons can, but just in general.... XD)

  • I.J.N Takao Remastered 9.2 years ago

@DeezDucks Ah, that's the secret!! Interesting.. I'm VERY new to this nudge business but have been using it like crazy ever since I learned how to actually do it. Good to know this about nudging at the finishing stage. Is this how people can get large turrets to rotate with virtually no space between the turret and the deck plating base?

  • I.J.N Takao Remastered 9.2 years ago

@DeezDucks BEAUTIFUL work on Takao and some real interesting features that one ordinarily wouldn't expect! The catapults are a nice touch just a shame the birds and catapults aren't functional! lol I'm teasing the idea of using one of my freed up AGs to add a functioning catapult with one of my observation floatplanes on it but I'm torn. lol I didn't realize you could nudge the rotators that deep into the hull and have them still work. I'm going to try to bury mine again and see if they'll work this time. If it worked for this beauty my beast should be able to work with it too. lol

  • Which works better on a ship? Rotator + Structural Wing or Vertical Stabs? 9.2 years ago

@FatNinja Oh, and congrats on silver!

  • Which works better on a ship? Rotator + Structural Wing or Vertical Stabs? 9.2 years ago

@FatNinja Good advice, before I added about half of her current displacement, it was BAD. My rotators alone would cause the bow to jump and the little jets would throw the nose everywhere. I think I have most everything lined up well but I think I need to put in that belt style of stabilizer that keeps heavy warships from sliding sideways or allowing mines/torpedoes to get at the softer keel. Right now that slide ability actually works a bit in her favor as I can bring more of her firepower to bear - aside from missiles - but it detracts from my original hit and run concept for dealing with the task force. Sure, I got lucky once and managed to tackle all four in one daring mission that left me seriously damaged and dead in the water by getting close, No how many "armored features" like angled armor on turrets, deck plating and similar we add we have to remember that these ships may look the part of a warship but are built out of the stuff planes would; Mostly alloys of aluminum and carbon composites I should imagine. lol (Although sometimes I think a bit of styrofoam and balsa is thrown in for good measure!)

In any event, she's my first ship build and I'm having a lot of fun building her and coming up with ideas. I have come up with some mine concept ideas, freighters, a carrier and I may yet change her armament to omit the heavy armaments to save for a larger project yet still, such as a boni fide cruiser. However I think most of my future boat designs will be in the neighborhood of PT boats, landing craft and such that will of course be MUCH smaller and more simple. I still have lots of planes and land vehicles to experiment with too. :D

  • Which works better on a ship? Rotator + Structural Wing or Vertical Stabs? 9.2 years ago

Thanks for all of the advice everyone but I managed to solve the problem, somehow my bow thrusters on one side got switched around to where it was just countering everything the other bow thruster did. She can turn rings under the bridge near Yeager practically now. XD

Although still incomplete I keep taking her out to fight the task force and Tiny. Today marks the first time I've killed all four ships in one mission in this little daredevil and I still have stuff to add and reconfigure!

@FatNinja My keel isn't all that deep but I have a lot of weight added to the centerline of my ship both with fuel and deadweight - though none that can be reached from the side. (Not that it matters since fuel doesn't "cook off" in this game anyway.) It does the trick though, even when I turn sharp enough to skid sideways on the water my attitude indicator doesn't show more than maybe a degree or two of deviation. lol The CoM line isn't even visible above deck though none of the central "ball" of mass shows through to the keel either which tells me it's probably about in-line with the top of my "bilge" layer of fuselage blocks. I thought about the prop idea too but wasn't sure how well that would work. Maybe on my next ship project, which of course will be larger scale but probably not as well armed since it'll be a carrier, hopefully with operable planes.

@DeezDucks Takao, eh? I will have to take a look at it! Did you do her up in IJN markings or Fleet of Fog markings? ;) Any working offensive weaponry?

@MaleticAirplanes I still haven't tried XML modding though I have a HUGE assortment of such in my subassemblies. lol

@ShatterFox I'll have to check that Shade-Class out too, what type of ship is it?

  • A-504 9.2 years ago

Beautiful build!! I always loved the look of the twin boom jets of the RAF & Fleet Air Arm! This definitely looks inspired by the Vampire! Which reminds me, I have an update to my Oowashii to upload at some point. I improved her on several levels. (Not the least of which realizing I had the wrong bloody engines on her! lol) Right now this Corvette I'm building is giving me a headache getting its primary weapons right. I tried using a part from someone's subassemblies post that lobbed a 250 Lb bomb and ... well it just kinda blew the crap out of my ship. Can you say ... backfire? lol Trying another now I snagged off of one of my son's DL'd tanks. lol

  • P-63 9.2 years ago

Nice replica, love it! The Kingcobra doesn't get enough lovin's. I kind of wish they had kept the props separate from the engines and given us the option of running a drive train so we could play with the practical balance of our aircraft - like the Airacobra and Kingcobra having their engines behind the pilot but driving a tractor propeller. Then again I'd like some gears or belts so we could use aircraft engines to literally drive vehicles. XD Sorry I haven't been keeping up on my five a day the past two days. That carrier I played with the other day bit me with the ship bug so I'm cooking up a Heavy Cruiser. With the helipads the destroyers are still bigger, Tiny is still taller but not as long - then again I haven't finished all the bits above deck. Turns well, cruising speed at 50% throttle is 37 mph but at flank speed is in the 60s or 70s but it burns through fuel pretty bad. After a close comparison pass by Tiny I made for the "expeditionary fleet" and caught up to them just as the weird phenomenon where the reflection of the other islands show up before it does on the horizon. Had a few bumps with the destroyers and Beast but nothing catastrophic and not enough for them to start shooting but I haven't installed any of the armaments ... yet. XD

Congrats on building your' first whirly-bird! I haven't had a chance to test her yet but I look forward to it! I've only had success with ONE other Helicopter here on SPs - maybe I'm more of a fixed wing guy? XD

  • Pz-V-2 9.3 years ago

@TheOwlAce Yeah, when I made a post asking for cannons, recoil and ammo capacity plus limited damage for the standard guns someone mentioned that the SP staff is working on a patch to allow more options with building ships which suggested to me that cannons aren't far away. (I hope it wasn't just a baseless rumor - I'm looking forward to it!)

  • Pz-V-2 9.3 years ago

I just tried to take this beastie to Bandit from Yeager and made it about half way there. There's this one spot where there's a large hill that you have to accelerate to cap it or you'll wind up rolling back for a while. Anyway at the top of this hill there's this lip at the top that if you hit it at over 20 mph you go airborne a bit. Well her posterior wheels hit first and that pitched the front forward causing the barrel's end to smack the ground and ... well ... you know the rest. lol More careful navigation of that area might get you through that spot but I didn't feel like starting all the way over again. Once again though, GREAT build with good potential!

  • A410 9.3 years ago

@MrSilverWolf I had a great time flying this bird. Her performance reminded me a lot of how an Amphib like the Catalina would "feel", gotta work to get altitude, pay attention to your' speed and your' pitch/yaw axis. Nothing boring about flying her! Landing on the water was a breeze, take off was nice she gets up to 128 mph without touching anything but the throttle, but you've gotta pull up to hit that magic 144-147 mph mark where she breaks the surface tension of the water. Landing at Yeager was great, I did it with the engines fully throttled down and she landed smooth as silk. You've got a lot of talent! I believe you've gotten yourself another subscriber too! ;)

  • Pz-V-2 9.3 years ago

GREAT job on this SPG, Owly - great minds think alike! lol I was considering an SPG with that exact barrel attachment after I finished with an MBT and an APC, IFV or Half Track. I had even thought to use that barrel on the MBT but I'm still uncertain I wish there was a greater selection. Yes, I know, the team is working on a ships upgrade for the game and patience is a virtue ... >.<

  • PZ-4-1 9.3 years ago

@TheOwlAce Sorry for the delay I wanted to check her out! lol Not bad at all. I take it this was your' first tank? The one I built was my first as well. It was heavily inspired by the design of another on here but not a direct descendant. On Facebook I used to have fun playing Ground War: Tanks, basically a cheap knock-off of World of Tanks. One of the most fun tanks for me was I think a tier 2 or 3 tank with a 20 mm cannon that could fire pretty rapidly so I chose a barrel assembly that had I think 4 wing guns nudged together to make it look like a wider barrel. (If you look at my Oowashi, the pylon mounted guns are the same thing just with a fuselage cone piece capping the end.) Then I added coaxial rocket launchers to the sides of the turret along with a pair of Gatlings that do not elevate just for anti-personnel. (Gotta love the chain-gun cha-cha!) She is VERY capable of blowing herself up with those rocket launchers but it's meant for when up on a hill and pointing down over her side. My girl's a twin VTOL turbine driven beasty, pitch down is forward, pitch up is reverse. Roll is to steer. You chose a very similar approach to me, to give the appearance of having treads but instead having a full bank of wheels that steer. CG 1 VTOL turns the turret, CG 2 VTOL elevates or depresses the main gun and rocket launchers. I couldn't quite get the Panzerkampfwagon 4-1 up to the bridge from Yeager though the last hill leading up to it is just too steep. However she survived the durability acid test when I drove her over all the little hills at about 50% throttle without flipping or suffering any sort of damage! A great build!!

  • SILK-208 Leijona (Lion) Heavy Jet Fighter 9.3 years ago

@TheOwlAce I figure I'll just continue with what I've got on the RP and solve it in my own interpretative way. XD By the way, I built a tank that was supposed to be in response to the one you were developing, did you ever finish it?

  • H.M.S Formidable 9.3 years ago

I just took this beasty out for a spin and decided I'd go and see what the task force would do if I harassed them in their course. They just pushed me out of the way when I tried barring their' path. Then after that I attempted to ram the destroyer. Unlike my prior experiences with ramming ships into Tiny where I could actually push her around this poor carrier went to pieces!! It was like buckled down the center, revealing her bits inside for all the world to see and although I had more than 60% of my fuel left before the collision it left me with only 2% fuel and only one of the four banks of maneuvering jets at the stern on the port side. >.< However this ship may have bitten me with the bug to stray into ship territory! D: lol

  • SILK-176a Haikala (Shark) Torpedo Bomber Floatplane 9.3 years ago

@TheOwlAce Just a few days ago actually, you can see some of my early nudging in the Haukka birds around the canopy. Looking at some more fun with nudging down the line! XD Yeah, but that floatplane doesn't give you a lot of float surface and it was the ONLY explosive torp I could find that she could get off of the water with, with her horsepower. I used nudging on that to bury the wing part into the gondola so I could just make the pylon look flush with the gondola.

  • H.M.S Formidable 9.3 years ago

I wonder if this could be saved as a subassembly to take off from it?? XD

@Hyperloop Oh! lol No story there, just your' personal armada. XD

  • SR72-2 for Lunar Arc 9.3 years ago

@Hyperloop lol It reminds me of some of the concept aircraft for hypersonic ramjet powered atmospheric skimming aircraft. I just tested her out myself and dang you have her balanced to the max and her maneuverability is magnificent! I second the question, what's the story of the TLZ Army, I've seen it on several of your' builds. As you know I'm on a roll with building for "Se Suomi Imperiumi" (The Finland Empire) in a quasi-role play of aircraft design between the aforementioned and TheOwlAce's Das Germanishe Weltreich (The Germanian Empire.) I'd like to know your' story line?

Oh, I guess the RP is over. With others becoming interested in his story line and contributing, one as an ally and myself as the "antagonist" he abruptly ended it soon after I notified him that the "Enemy" has not yet begun to reveal its true strengths. My name wasn't tagged in the post so I had no idea. -_-

  • SR72-2 for Lunar Arc 9.3 years ago

This bird LOOKS like something that should be involved in a competition that has the world "Lunar" in it! Great work and good luck!!

  • Bf-133-H2-2 9.3 years ago

Great work on revising the venerable Bf-133. I like the new wingtips and added control surfaces than those I added to the Bf-133H-3 I started putting together. She's far more maneuverable now than the old Bf-133H-2 predecessor design.

  • Bf-312 B-2 9.3 years ago

I took this new beaute into dogfight mode against what would likely be its primary antagonist and repeatedly this girl started cartwheels and flat spins like your' last new design. >.< I decided to take her into sandbox mode and experiment to see where the issue is. Rolling is great and contrary to my original perspective she can pitch vertical well at high speeds. While a skilled pilot, trained on this type, could probably handle her in her specified role to intercept bombers dealing with long-range escort fighters would not be an easy task though and their best option would be to use their speed to escape from them if they have the option. The problem lies in multiple control surface maneuvers. For example rolling out into a dive can send her dangerously wobbling if at high speed. At half speed you're likely to go into a cartwheel. Engaging in dog fights where true barrel rolls which use pitch and elevator control at high speed will cause a weird wobble phenomenon which I think is called a "Dutch Roll" which quickly drops the speed and if the maneuver is not stopped you'll enter a flat spin. Attempting to roll out, barrel roll, perform a fast immelmann or reverse of the same at less than 350-400 mph is not advised as it will lead to aforementioned losses of control.

Not all is bad though! She's fast, has a good fuel capacity and can hit and run against enemy bomber formations - a classic energy fighter with fuel efficiency that makes her hand and a half above most of her jet powered contemporaries.

I would experiment with lengthening her to see if spreading out the center of gravity, lift and propulsion would stabilize her at all.

  • Bf-312 B-2 9.3 years ago

I like the new look and she sure has speed to spare for a prop fighter, its the second coming of the Dornier Do-335 Pfiel (Arrow) only on steroids! I took her up and shot down the generic "Bomber", in sandbox mode that's somewhere in the game's inner workings for the "Defend the Bomber" mission, but after that I got into a dogfight with a float fighter I downloaded for my son at some point. His rate of roll wasn't as good but he could avoid most of my passes as this new bird pitches pretty slow. However as you pointed out she's an interceptor - not a dogfighter. After eight or ten attempts at him and having him in my sights I tried a quick 33 or so degree roll and dive but wound up in an unrecoverable flat spin. Horizontal stabilizers should be big enough to keep her stable I would think. Maybe it has something to do with how close the center of lift, gravity and power are all lined up in a tight group? I don't know.. Definitely superior in performance to the last new design and I still can't get over that new aggressive looking nose! Great work Owly-man! Oh, and I like that you've started adding "Das Germanishe Weltreich" flags to the tails! If you want crosses for the wings I can make them of equal thickness to the wing so it doesn't appear to overlap from modded parts I've downloaded and upload it for you. By the way, did you read the quasi-role-play build post I made regarding your' work and "Se Suomi Imperiumi" as the identity of your' "enemy?" You'll note I went back to matte paint as glare from semi-gloss can sometimes give away your' position. I decided to go with that nice intermediate blue and light gray as the standard color scheme. If I do say so myself I like the story line, history and notation about the "Scarlet Crown of Suomi." ^_^ Would you like for me to write up a story-line that focuses on Das Germanishe Weltreich? Also, what did you think of the war in the Southwest Pacific I wrote about, with Germania fighting amidst a large coalition to recover her colonies from Imperial Japan?
