This is the first helicopter in SP I've been able to take off, maneuver, and land in without crashing. Admittedly I'm a terrible helicopter pilot, so that's saying something if I can fly this without a problem!
.
Great looking, and easy to fly. A win win for sure!
@Cedy117 It takes off. It just takes forever while on the water. Granted, many real flying boats had long run-ups to take-off, but there are ways to shorten that by modifying the lower hull slightly.
The model looks fantastic, though :D I love flying boats, and I fancy myself as having a good eye for them. With a couple tweaks this model could be perfect!
This is a great looking plane. I do have a couple of suggestions, however.
.
First, your landing gear need to be closer to your COM. This will make the plane easier to rotate at slower speeds and give it a slower take-off speed overall.
.
Second, if you want the plane to take off at in a decent distance and pick up speed better on the water, you really need to add a step to the lower hull. A good spot is just behind the wing. This will help lift a lot of your plane out of the water sooner, and lower the surface area in contact with the water, making it much easier for the plane to break free and lift off.
@LjSpike Would you be okay with an Intrepid class instead? I'm not a big fan of the NX-01, personally.
.
The biggest problem is going to be balancing the thrust. If we put the engines on the nacelles, the COT is going to be really high...
@XVIindustries I've already got plans for different classes and divisions. This is mainly just to determine what the actual task will be for the planes. A island to island flight test is interesting, but really would boil down to a straight line speed run, which I already plan to do as with the previous challenge. Race planes need to be tested for both speed and maneuverability. Maybe in a future challenge I will do a island to island transport theme, but it doesn't really fit the air-race theme I'm going for here. Thanks for the input though. it's truly appreciated :)
@Spikerya I've already got another one in the works. Just working out the details as this one will be a little better structured and more fair towards planes with different engine types.
Very cool. I didn't find any real stability issues. Noses down slightly, but that's it. The only real problem I see is with the hydro-skis, which seem to work opposite of the actual Sea Dart.

Flying starts at 1:20. I recommend you mute it and find a better track for the video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64oq-J_EGdg That link has some more appropriate music (And a sweet video with more planes when you're done with the AT vid :D
I'm really sorry about the challenge closing early. I've already started running the course times and it's going to take me forever with the number of entries I have >_>;;
@YoYoJ16 Actually, an open cockpit model would be nice. Like, half a person sticking up from a black base, with a small windshield. Would be great for making old-timey biplanes and stuff.
Very nice.
@icecoldlava Not really. You lose thrust, because of a lack of air to push against, but your engines don't actually fail.
Maybe not the next update, but definitely a future one. Also would be nice if engines flamed out or stalled at a certain altitude due to lack of air.
@Lolivier They're not identical. One is the pilot seat and the other is the co-pilot seat. Thanks for commenting and upvoting! :D
@bobthetitan123 Thanks :D
@LjSpike I have a plane like that already: https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/1fSYX9/The-Inverter

You're welcome.
@FlOu fiction. I keep forgetting we have tags now :P
Good thing they brought along their easy chairs.
@ElGatoVolador @Stingray @Authros @Cedy117 Thanks guys!
@JacobHardy64 And there's more to come :D
Very nice modifications.
Looks great! Who cares if it can't fly? :P
Very cool!

@Flyboy It was unable to finish a lap on the race course. It kept overshooting the ring after the first turn.
Very nice. Much better on take-off now :D

@LjSpike maybe. What did you have in mind?
"spent all day redesigning my old basic model"
You mean you copied and reposted my plane. As far as I can tell, you didn't even change anything.

@BigCat There will be lots of options to compete for.
@Shmexysmpilot It was pretty grueling. But also fun test flying all those planes.

@FullFruntall You plane was wicked awesome looking. Don't fret. I'll be hosting the next challenge soon, so you'll get another chance then :D
Not bad, I made one before the procedural fuselage parts and new engines were introduced. You should check it out.
Very cool!
Looks amazing. Flies like a brick with wings.
I love weird old airplanes like this :D
@Soulpilot99 Valkyrie* and yeah, this is pretty friggin awesome!

I'm guessing you like the movie Stealth?
Congrats on being featured!
@LjSpike Is it a replica, or your own design?
@WalrusAircraft Thanks!
@JacobHardy64 thanks. I'm really happy with the way this handles as well.

Yes yes yes! Looks almost perfect. I'll have to wait to fly it though. I'm at work abs using my lousy phone :C
I'm game. When is the due date?
Crazy!
I'm really sorry about the challenge closing early. I've already started running the course times and it's going to take me forever with the number of entries I have >_>;;
@karlosdarkness Barely. The pilot usually looks way too small for the aircraft. Your link = case in point.
@LjSpike It is a cropduster. They don't cut the crops, they spread seed, fertilizer, or pesticides. This plane is based on a real aircraft.
Looks cool, but the challenge is closed.
I thinki might whip something up for this.
@YoYoJ16 Actually, an open cockpit model would be nice. Like, half a person sticking up from a black base, with a small windshield. Would be great for making old-timey biplanes and stuff.
@LordofLego Oh well. It's olive green with a white nose.
@FullFruntall I'll accept it, but that's the last entry I'm allowing.
