1927 Supermarine S.5

Another simple Schneider for you guys! :)

Flight details at bottom of desc:

Basics:
The supermarine S.5 was designed for the 1927 Schneider trophy by R.J Mitchell and built by supermarine it first flew on June the 7th
and the s5's that entered the race were 1st and 2nd a big success after the failure of the supermarine S.4

Design:
It was a cantilever/wire braced monoplane design with a streamlined metal fuselage, the pilot sat in the middle behind the huge Napier lion engine (Litteraly they are bloody massive) in a very cramped cockpit with extremely limited veiw, the fuselage was monocoque in design and was all covered in a thin sheet of light metal, the wings had spruce spars and struts and were coated in canvas, one of the three S.5's built used a direct drive Napier lion VII.A engine with 900hp while the others used a geared but less powerful Lion VII.B engine as you can probably notice, the front of the aircraft is made in the shape of the lion engine, so essentially it's a streamlined engine.... Sort of like the Gee Bee but a bit less.... Well... Idiotic

History:
First flight was on June the 7th 1927 3 were built after the first flew two for the race and one as a spare the two in the race Number 4&5 got 1st&2nd with an average speed of around 280mph later the aircraft was used to try and back the speed record for powered heavier than air crafts, unfortunately it crashed, killing the pilot,
the remaining S.5 was entered in the 1929 race as the reliability of one of the other British entries the Gloster VI was not too good, (it pulled out at the day before due to fuel injection problems when banking)

The S.5 was the basis of the re designed S.6 that used a rolls Royce engine instead of a Napier, and the S.6 went on to be the S.6B and the spitfire Mk 1

Flight dictions:
Takeoff- pitch up untill airborne or nose will plough into the water
Landing- slow shallow glide approach with 0% power, touch down on the back of the pontoons,
Flying- small nose down issue, as on all seaplanes of this type, the pontoons cause drag and are heavy and create difficulties turning and also flying level, but this design is by RJ Mitchell so it should be ok ;) after all he did design the spitfire!

Please enjoy! And leave a comment or an upvote it would really help! :)

Original plans used with scaling to create a cockpit sized model everyone can enjoy!

Thankyou! Not sure what to build next lol, I want to build some small fun dog fighters or racers that don't lag like my Stirling, I have been trying to finish it but lol it's a nightmare and I have 3 other unfinished bombers just waiting to get bomb bay doors!! I've lost the willpower for huge projects at the moment Lol @Cedy117
